It seems a few years ago I had the same thing as you all. Got on my computer and things went haywire saying I had a virus. So I called and asked questions about whether he was legit and he convinced me that he was and part of the better business bureau. I paid 249 and now can't get account for mcafee with some thing that looked legit he put on my computer to look like a virus protection plan. Now tried calling them for the acct info and can't get a hold of them for nothing with any number I pull up. Makes me so mad!
This company is a complete Ripoff! I received a message on my MacBook that said I had a bad virus and to call this "this number" at 866-500-4589. I called the number and paid the $299 they charged me to fix my laptop and get Virus protection for 3 years. It took 4 hours for them to fix my computer and I had to call numerous of times after to get the Virus protection installed on my laptop. After all that hassle, I only received 1 year of Virus protection and I can't get in contact with anyone from the company. None of the numbers work and they don't answer emails. Stay far away from this business!
I have a 3 year contract with YAY for security/cleaning/problem solving. Good for 1 year. Now, however, cannot get connected to a technician, email addresses don't work, phone numbers don't work! Are they out of business, or a scam?
This is for the YAY services, inc. out of Salt Lake City, Utah.
I had a message on my Mini Mac that said that I have a very bad virus and to call this "Apple Support"at 866-500-4589.
They do not answer the phone with any company name. And of course everyone you speak with is from India. I let them into my computer and they found 235 inflections. They said they needed $795.00 to fix it. At first I agreed and gave them my Credit Card as I was on hold I searched one Internet and found your web site and had American Express decline the payment. I have since taken my Mini Mac into the local apple shop and have a price of $120.00 to fix everything.
Wether they put the viruses on my computer is unknown. But is sure is Suspious.
Almost got scammed by these guys today myself. I was smart enough likely to call our computer tech before biting and they told me it was a scam right away and also were able to tell me how to get the pop up off of my computer so I could carry on. The person I talked to from YAY tipped me off a few times by things he said like when I declined his offer he immediately dropped the price down to $299.00 which included both their senior citizen discount and their Employee discount. Well, first of all I am not a senior citizen..... In our conversation he told me I could take my computer to a tech to have it repaired but it would be their for at least 5 days then when I told him that is what I was going to do he said, NO you cant do that as if you shut down your computer you will lose stored information off of your system. Listen carefully people and always verify these things before you jump in.
I was working for my classes on my computer and a full screen pop-up took over my screen. The message said that my computer has been hacked and I must call this number 877-667-7972 to remove it. The people who answered sounded like people from India, but said to be in Salt Lake City. They communicated my PC had a virus destroying everything , but they could remove it for $499, to a maximun of 3 computers for 1 year. I took them 3 hours to fix it, so I decided to call them other day for the other computers. One month after the same problem appeared but neighther the phone number they gave or the e-mail address worked, another pop-up like a chat format showed up with another phone nuber to call. I won't ever call any of those anymore. How can these types of thieves work so easily???
A pop-up appeared on my computer telling me I had a virus and locked up my computer. Pop-up aid to call this number to have it removed. That my computer was at risk. Chargeds me a total of $499 to remove virus and protect my computer. I am calling my credit card company to have the transaction stopped. And to report the transaction as fraudulant.

SCAM is every where -
scammers online charge you $500...Local tech charged you $120
this type of issue can be fixed just by $50-$60 softwares and a little education will be good for the lifetime

STAY AWAY!
Do not call, do not respond, stop using your machine, reimage it and be more careful on Youtube (this appears to be their favorite attack vector)...
