Eric took a deposit from me for my divorce and then asked me to put together all the paper work that my wife’s lawyer was asking for. I delivered every document (3 inches thick) to Eric’s girlfriends house. We talked several times and I was told that everything was in order. On the day of our hearing, Eric asked me to meet him at the Delray Beach library and we would use one of the private rooms to talk. He told me he had failed to deliver my information to my wife’s lawyer and that the judge would not allow me to question my wife because of the oversight on his part. So, in essence, my wife’s lawyer was allowed to ask any questions about finances but we were not allowed to ask my wife any questions. The judge granted us equal custody based on law and not based on any negotiations by my lawyer. When my wife’s lawyer asked the judge to make me pay his legal fees, the judge, not my attorney, argued that I could not afford such high fees and rejected the request.
After our initial court case was over, Eric tried to take credit for the child custody “win” but that was something that my wife and I talked about along with my child, and had settled before we entered the courtroom. We just passed that on to the judge through our lawyers. Eric had no real influence on the outcome. As far as the lawyer’s fees, Eric never said one word about fees in court. It was solely the judge who came to my defense.
After leaving court, I tried to get Eric to help me with the paperwork that was required by the court. I got a bunch of emails from him that were so compromised in logic that even my next lawyer who helped guide me said it bordered on lunacy. Eric should have had me to his office and helped me fill out the forms or had his legal secretary help me. Turns out he doesn’t seem to have a legal secretary, or anyone else in the office to help.
I fired Eric and told him I wanted my money back ($2000.00) but he refused. This had taken many months to get to this point and now I was up against the wall with the courts. I ended up handling the case myself and got a settlement that was as good as anything Eric would have gotten me. Why as good? Because Florida law is pretty clear and my income determined my settlement. With no other issues, the judge granted the divorce.
I have read the other Rip Off reports on Erick Yankowit and found the other complaints mirrored mine exactly.
He does not return phone calls promptly.
He does not have anyone in his office to answer the phone.
If you call his office, it rings to his cell and he doesn’t answer.
If you call his cell, you get the same exact message by the same female voice.
After he took my money he never did any work for me except answer a few emails.
His office is a disaster. How he finds a file is tough to understand.
My accountant, who knows Eric very well, said that a good part of his work comes from fixing Eric’s work. We all know each other because we were all introduced by the same professional organization. My accountant has had to go back and fix the work of other clients from this organization and his stories are hair raising.
If you are thinking of hiring Eric Yankowit, be warned. He does the same to everybody. If you don’t believe me, Just ask to meet him in his office.
