In November of 2017 I was contacted by Minique Gomez of Xlibris Publishing to give me assistance in writing my book: "Pickel Juice." Ms Gomez convinced me of purchasing a basic black and white soft cover package for about $500. I sent her my manuscript, which they began editing (suposedly) . Then Ms Gomez convinced me to purchase variouspackages plus a website (which never happened) to further the All I have had for the past year are promises and no results. Now they are claiming the contents of my book may violate the "Son of Sam" law. I told them, no problem. Just change the book to fiction. After one full year they have ripped me off for over $2200, I have the evidence via bank account withdrawls. This business must be stopped as I know I am not the first nor the only they have and are ripping off as such.
Xlibris markets their own services well, offering good value for their publishing packages. Once they collected the money, in my own case, they placed me in what I'll call "content evaluation jail" until I would resubmit my memoir manuscript first with a requirement that I seek written permission to even cite any other works in my bibliography.
Then, after dropping that one, they required name changes on all of my real life stories of consequence. Then, after I complied with that, they required me to change my own name so no one in any of my many stories could possibly claim defamation by some indirect association.
As an ordained clergyman with no incriminating or even critical mention of anyone else's direct or indirect involvement in my stories, I refused to lie about my own identity. My own private reader group expressed a consensus that the Xlibris content evaluator(s) were offering no credible rationale based upon any actual libel laws, etc.
In 2013 I self-published my first script, titled: "Chi-Chi and the Salazar family" the publisher, I used to publish the script was "Xlibris".I've spent close to two thousand dollars with this publisher to advertise my book to obtain publicity and sells.
Since 2013 all I've gained has been sixty dollars. My book since it came out has been sold overseas and has many five stars over the internet and great reviews, people on eBay are selling my book in the UK, Australia, and France.
The publisher hasn't sent me a check for more than two years and my book has been sold up until today. Then, why was my last check from them a few years ago? When I asked them about why I haven't received a check in the past few years, they always give me vague answers that I don't understand.
A few weeks ago, I called and asked them, why haven't I received a check from 2016 and 2017 and they told me they will going to contact me which they did not.
I don't recognize what's actually going on, they can tell me anything they want and I possess no evidence to belie.
I had no idea that so many people were going through the same problems as me, too bad I waited so many years to seek help.
P.S. I own all the rights to my book. Too bad I didn't find out all these complains sooner, I would have taken a different direction.
I published a book through Xlibris publishing in Nov. of 2016. Prior to the physical printing and publishing I purchase an upsell package for 1799.00 that quaranteed 100% royalties from every book sold.
I was shocked and insulted when I received my first royalty check of 49.50 for the first quater. I realized my quarter was on 6 weeks long. But I also researched my sales and they were between 80-90 books.
I have since spent 3 weeks going back and forth with every person at Xlibris that I needed to talk to. I asked for my full royality payout, I even asked for a refund of the original 1799.00. Although this was the least favorite of mine due to the obvious limitation of any sales in the future. It doesn't matter anyway as my claimned was flat out denied.
Not only was this policy never explained to me on the phonbe, it also wasn't in writting anywhere. Im informed Xlibris that had it been an original discussion I would not have signed or paid for the package.
How is it that xlibris and author solutions can still be in business with so many reports of ripping off authors?
shows years of negative reports about this company but they are still in business, what can be done to put an end to this? I have personally been fighting with xlibris for several years to get my simple 80 page book launched properly. It was issue after issue and now that my connection to this company is so close to being over they hit me again with one of their scams.
I too have paid the $6,000 price for a complete package that includes the marketing. They built my book's website and now they want to charge me for bandwidth issues. This is the third time my site went down due to this issue and they want me to pay for their mistake.
When the website completion date was set i had paid for a marketing company to do large scale and very expensive e mail blasts. Xlibris was very aware of the marketing strategy, the timing of the blast and the fact that i had paid a lot of money for this blast. Due to xlibris 'professional' web builders errors my site went down just as the blast was sent out causing me to lose over 25,000 customers. When i was assured by xlibris that the problem was fixed i sent out the second scheduled e mail blast to over 50,000 customers only to find out the site went down again losing me even more $.
The first time the site went down i was not aware till friends reported problems viewing my site. I had to report it to xlibris and request compensation for the loss of $ due to their error. Marketing supervisor vera carter responded with an offer of 1 year free service of xlibris hosting the website starting in dec. 2017. Why would i want them to host for an additional year when they can't get it right the first time?
After consulting 2 outside tech firms i discovered that the bandwidth issue was something the builder would have known about when building the site. There have been no additions to the site so that alone indicates the builder, xlibris/author solutions must have created the problem while building the site. Now i have received an e mail stating that i must make additional monthly payments to keep my book's website up and working each month.
Since i am not able to list e mail addresses, i am listing the people i have been dealing with regarding this issue. Adam brillo who contacted me back when i first had issues with xlibris about 2yrs ago. At that time he was considered a supervisor in customer service so when this issue of the bandwidth started i cc'd him on all e mails requesting help. Vera carter and james aguilar are both supervisors of the marketing department so both were sent cc e mails regarding this bandwidth issue.
Several years ago when i first had difficulties with this company, i discovered that there are no official overseers in the publishing world. I had taken it upon myself to create a class action law suit against xlibris and it's mother company author solutions. Now, i am furious with myself for not following thru with the class action law suit. Today is 5/7/17, i will give xlibis and author solutions one week to correct the problems they created on my book's website. If i feel their deceitful practices have not been addressed, i will be posting notice that the class action lawsuit has been activated again and all who wish to participate are welcome to contact me.
I have not cancelled my service with them and asked for a refun of them money I have sent for the last service and am waiting for th eir response. they are taking people with their scams and it isn't fair. they should be held accountable and shut down.
I wanted to publish my book so I decided to self publish and I picked Xlibris. At first I was excited that they chose to publish it. I was taken in by their services and was willing to pay for them. But after a while of editing and editing I was handed to a number of people to do different services. In the meantime them came up with more programs to add to marketing my book which I paid for. This all sounded good because it was my first book and I was really excited to get it published. Once I saw the book completed I paid for advertising, book catalogs, shows but had only written articles that they said went to the media. Still no proof of shows. My book is on Amazon and Barnes as Noble and I have a Website. I was told I would get a ReadAloud program wh ich I already paid for and it was edited. Now I receive an email telling me it was discontinued and they would give me a 60-90 sec ad on you tube free. I also made four payments for a distribution of my book to retailers. These cost me a total of $4965.00. I wanted all my money back and I canceled anymore affiliation with them. I have not heard from them and fear I have lost all that money as well my sense of worth. They have taken away much more that money from me and many others and they should be held responsible for what they do. I have received a totall of $35.00 in royalties and lost so much more. I will do anything to close them down and any like them. Please help me and others who fall victim to businesses like this.
Xlibris publishing company will not refund me back my money. I asked for a refund because I felt all they was thinking about was money. I informed them that I was using my card from work and had lost my job and therefore it doesnt no longer work but they insist on keep trying it. I also wanted my money back when I read all the negative reviews. The lady ther name Erica Twain gave me this lame excuse about the agreement that I signed stating that there was a nonrefundable fee because the card was decline and that the about of money I sent them was the agreement if I didnt follow through was just enough for their fees. I sent them $196.00. and in the agreement it states that it will be a non refundable fee for $30.00 if I would ask for a refund. It makes no sense to me. She couldnt even explain it herself. They took almost $200.00 from me. Now I'm left with no money or no book published. I dont think it's right for them to take all my money like that. These people needs to be put out of business.
