I rencently sold/moved out of a house in New Mexico. The last bill I received, for the dates I was still living in the home and for about a week after I moved out, was about $170. The house sat empty with every circuit breaker in the service panel turned off with the exception of the furnace, which was set to about 50°F. The water heater circuit breaker was off, the refrigerator was unplugged...nothing else in the house was running.

A month after I moved out, I received the monthly bill showing the house had used 1000kWh more than the month before. An empty house used more electricity than one with an entire family living in it? I sold the house a month later. New owner transfers the acoount and I get a final bill of another $100 for only half the billing period.

When I called to inquire, I was told that there is something drawing power in the house that I wasn't aware of. My question was how could anything be using power through a service panel that is 99% turned off. Xcel claims they actually read the meter in each month prior to my leaving, which is what my bill states except for the last bill, which says it was estimated.

Estimated based on what? The previous month? So nearly $300 in electricty, for a month and half, from a house that is unoccupied. Something is very wrong with this picture. Even when I ran my A/C all day/night in the summer, the bill was never, ever this much.

I recieved 2 Xcel Energy bills in December 2017. One was for $89 and the other for $673. I immediatly called Xcel and they told me my meter was broke and this was electrical charges for June 2016 to present. I said that it is NOT MY METER, and I should not be charged for past usage because they had a broken meter. They said there are alot of older meters and they do break....well being in business they should be replacing them before they break...not my responsibility. They asked me if I reviewed my bills...I said no I just pay them...I now have to review every bill to ensure they are accurate??? There is a small charge on the bills, I asked what that is for they replied: for people who cannot afford electricity, and to my surprise for METER MAINTENANCE, so now I'm paying for a broken meter???

I asked why I was not notified, they said I was, they had a wrong phone number on my account. The 2nd number was correct, I never recieved a call, when asked who called me, they said it is a recorded call....so they use Robo calls to inform people something may be wrong??? So in summary this company and do whatever they please and take responsibility for nothing, we are like puppets because we need the services they offer.

This bill would be devestating to someone making minimum wage, but Xcel doesn't care, they take no ownership, they just want their money.

Every single year without question Xcel Energy charges me more than what I actually used December January February and March every year without a doubt. We have called and they said we are on the average plan we took ourselves off the average plan 2 years ago. April through November my electric bill is between 112 and 140 maybe 160 on certain occasions. As soon as December through March hit my bill is way over $200. I do nothing different my kids go to school my husband works I stay home there's one TV on one light on and the air is always going. Never changed my routine and yet they still do it. It's become ridiculous and it's impossible to fight and Xcel is our only provider. I'm getting sick of their outrageous charges and their lack of answers if you can choose any other company do not go to Xcel it's not worth it. And the deposit must be made within three months otherwise it's on your next bill they did that to me during Christmas. Because the holidays, my payment was two days late, they wanted me to pay almost 800 in three days or cut off. Luckily I had an awesome landlord, and he called them and told the company I moved so we could put it in my husband's name.

On September 2017 I received my monthly bill from August 2017 something did not look right, because we had a hot summer this year and my ac had been on most of the time. My bill amount due was under $10.00 and i knew that wasn't correct so i made a call on the 5 of September and asked xcel energy whats going on with my bill? They said it may be the meter. I then asked when will they come out and check it? They said 2 to 3 weeks. I thought it seemed a little long, but i knew they were not going to come and fix the next day. So i left it at that. The month of September went bye and then came October bill which was again under $10.00. I knew from looking at this bill, xcel did not come out to check or fix my meter. I then called again and spoke to an agent, they said it takes a month for tech to go out and check. So in the back of my head I'm thinking, they are in no rush and when i finally do get my bill it's going to be extremely high. So I started making $50.00 payment. October came and went no signs of tech in my backyard. November came and the bill again was under $10.00. I made my November payment of $50.00 and then called xcel again spoke to another agent about my broken meter. By this time i was really upset and someone finally came out to fix. I then received another bill over $400.00! I was shoked,pissed upset! So i made another phone call, this time i asked for the agents name and employee she gave it to me. I had explained to her the issue with my broken meter sinc September and how my bill ran up that high?

She said they went back 6 months of billing?!?! I said 6 months?!?! But my meter had only been broken since Sept. Prior to that my average was normal from last years. She went on and on about the same thing. And i told her my bill would had never been this high if someone from xcel would had come the month i called and reported! She couldn't understand why i was so upset. So she trasformed me over to someone else? I then had to explain everthing to this new person. And she said there was nothing she could do about my bill. They were more upset because i had called and was bothering them about my broken meter that had gone without service and my bill. The second person was the most hateful person. When i asked for her name and employee number she refused to give to me? Over and over she was saying i don't know what you want me to do about it. I told her i wanted them to take some responsibility for my almost $400.00 bill. She said i could make monthly payments for 6 months. I said. no way! I for years pay my bills on time and in full. I never let them spill over for next month. At this time i was trying so hard not to go off on her. I truly wish they had a recorder to play back the way she was speaking to me.

I knew some how i was going to have to pay this large amount soon and worried because thanksgiving is coming up and then christmas. I told her how can you go back 6 months to June 2017 if my meter was not broken. I know this because i save all my bills and looking and comparing last years June, July and August my bills were the same from 2016. But she said it wasn't working and they have to go back 6 months. I was so upset. I then told her i would call my local news stations and local newspaper to report them. She then said are you threatening me? I said that is not a threat. I then asked her how would she feel if this happen to her mother? She would not answer me. I then told her i was going to let the public know what was going on and i had proof from all my last years bills and this years bills. This lady after over an hour she then said i am going to give you a $50.00 credit to your next bill. Wow after all that for the months i would call and ask when they were going to come and fix my meter? She hung up on me. No apoligy no sorry about what happen to you. Just silence.

I still don't understand how xcel can say my meter had been broken sinc June of this year when clearly my June 2017 bill was the same as June 2016 also my July 2016 same as July 2017? Sept 2017 bill was different from last years bill. So after all that, I don't know what's worse? The extreme bill i have to pay before the holidays or the customer service i received? And after all that, from e telling her i would go to my local news station, she said i would get a $50.00 credit on Jan 2018 bill.

Someone should had came to fix my meter the month i called which was Sept 2017. But waited Nov 2017 to then get billed $400.00 for 6 months. Even though i made monthly payments of $50.00 on Sept,Oct,Nov. I did not even know the amount each of those months, but i knew if i did not pay at least $50.00, it would had been worst. I did my part on calling Sept,Oct, and Nov to report my meter. Xcel Energy should take some responsibility for this.

XCEL ENERGY COLORADO sent me a bill for their meter malfunction of $673 on top of our monthly charge, they say that the meter on my property was malfuncioning" for a year, my monthly charge is around $100 but this month they sent a bill for $673 due to their meter malfunction... this is simply a ripoff they abuse thats they can just turn my switch off, they have some sort of aura that protect them from the people that they arrass like me, I am a hard working person that arrived to my home to get peace and got their RIPOFF there is no excuse to charge me 6 times as much as we usually pay and they say that they are adding to my account a monthly unpaid charge or something like that, no clear message, just a BILL..

What can be done with this thieves? We the people need help to deal with XCEL ENERGY and their crooks that send bills like if the people have to pay their will like slaves or something.

We bought a historic home and proceeded to undergo a 75% home remodel and renovation. During the initial demo, Xcel started billing us anywhere from $500-$1000/month for our property that was literally dark and vacant, no windows, doors, etc. We argued we had no electrical power running to the property, and no one living there. However, they said the meter showed use, so we got billed. We continued to get monthly bills ranging from $800-$1000. The home is just about 4000 square feet, and the previous owners never had any issues similar to this. Now the home has all new windows, new doors,

3 years later, the home has all new windows, new doors, high-efficiency appliances, complete new duct system, etc. The entire house was rewired and everything was replaced with the most current energy efficient options. We recently had a full home energy audit, and the technician could not find anything out of the ordinary. Our bills continue to be over $1000. Our last home was also a newer remodel, and our bills never reached over $400. It's absolutely impossible that we could be using this much energy. If we refuse to pay, they will disconnect us. We have asked for a new meter, more frequent reads, or anything that would help and they continue to ignore us.

Recently, we were able to get them to agree to allow us to pay out the high bills with a payment plan. We made a payment of $800, and created schedule to pay the rest out in monthly installments. 4 days after we made the payment and agreement, they came out and disconnected our service 'by mistake'. We work from home and had no power from 11am until 8pm. Even though it was their mistake, they still wouldn't give us a straight answer on when they would turn it back on, and we had to be home (in the dark and cold) to wait for the tech to come turn it back on. We lost an entire day of work due to their negligence and competency.

As consumers with no other options, we are at their mercy, and there is basically nothing we can do. They ignore our requests for help but they will cut us off if we don't pay, and obviously, we need electrical service to live. This situation is absolutely a nightmare, and the company is literally stealing from us!
