The individual who called my place of work, found out about the job opening via a candidate that we interviewed with. The individual was smooth talking and saying about how much his company had done business with mine and choose an arbitrary San Fransico in California as the place that they placed candidates in.
I work in a very large multi-national company, so any recruiter that has made it through the door and has placed candidates is going to know that they need that point of contact. It might not be the correct one that they need for the open position, but that HR person, should easily be able to redirect them to the correct HR representative without having to go through hoops in finding out who is doing the actual interviews.
Also they would know that HR is the traffic cop. So during this talk and gathering of information, red flags kept popping up and finally I was giving out no further information as I knew the following:
He did not know our HR representative (he claimed he might know him).
He did not know anything about the open position (he learned from our interviewee)
He did not place anyone in my company (or he would know our procedures and a contact).
So this was just a scam of information for his company. Backs the other complains that I read here, and this is the same, except it's from the company point of view.
