I decided to sleep on this and wait a day to determine if i should say anything. For the record, I believe Tim had every intention of doing the job he was hired to do. He was polite and seemed eager to do the work. He was simply lacking the skillset, and just about every tool necessary.
I am a general contractor and I decided to subcontract all of the drywall hanging, mudding, and texturing for a new home being built. Tim Wilson contacted me and assured me he had references, had just completed a large drywall job of 480 sheets of drywall, and could start the day I had asked. He quoted me a pretty cheap price, our agreement was verbal only. I did some research and found a poor rating on bbb.com, but he seemed very excited to start and I decided to give him a chance and just be very cautious. He showed up when he said he would, but I noticed immediately that something was off. He had no idea what he was doing. and experienced drywaller would be much more comfortable on a job site and he seemed to have no idea where he was supposed to start. He had almost no tools, no drywall gun, no drywall jack or lifts, not even an extension cord. I asked him what type of tools he would use to mud the drywall and he had no idea what I was talking about. I watched him get started and let him get 3 pieces hung before I stopped him. I was polite and told him this wasn't the job for him, payed him for his time and gas, and he didn't argue and loaded up his few tools and left.
I am not writing this report to disparage anybody. I like to mind my own business and not talk poorly about anybody. But to be perfectly honest, there are a lot of guys like Tim in the world of construction who may have good enough intentions but simply don't have the ability and skillset to do the work and try to fake it til they make it. It is frustrating for those of us who take our careers seriously and refuse to provide anything other than quality craftsmanship, to have guys like this give all contractors a bad reputation with lies and b.s. I felt obligated to share this story for future homeowners. I apologize to anyone who knows Tim personally and reads this and may be offended.
