Please be advised that this office does not comply with California Health and Safety Code section 123100-123149.5, which states that "Any patient or his representative is entitled to inspect his medical records during business hours, within five working days after making a written request."
I began to question their recommended treatments and procedures, so I visited their office in person to obtain my entitled copy of my dental records with this office, so I could review the clinical notes.
Per Wilshire Smile Studio's office manager, Kristine, it is their office policy that they do not allow patients to review or receive copies of their own dental records, regardless of the reason, without a court order or a subpoena. This is illegal, but it is their policy nevertheless. Because of this, I was forced to hire an attorney and pay a $500 fee out of my own pocket to have the attorney order my records on my behalf. I should have never had to do this! I made a request almost two months ago to their office to please reimburse me this attorney's fee, due to this illegal practice of theirs, but my request has been so far ignored.
If you are considering becoming a patient of this dental office, I would strongly advise you to look elsewhere. The information I ultimately was looking for in my records, concluded that there were in fact inconsistencies between the treatment I received and their recommendations in their clinical notes.
I can only assume that if they are willing to violate this law, they are likely violating other health code laws as well, which may be the reason they attempt so carefully to cover up their patients' records the way they do.
