In late June 2015 I had Delta Dental Enhanced Family PPO Plan III and had been to a prior dentist who filled a tooth which needed a root canal and that tooth (#29) became infected with an abcess and he gave me back my money.
I went to another PPO dentist in the area, Dr. Nancy Grewal, DDS of West Washington Family Dentistry who saved that tooth #29 and told me that I had a gigantic cavity on #18 but when I asked her to fill it she said "let's wait until it turns into a root canal"? I was in so much pain with my other tooth I figured after that pain went away we'd fix tooth #18.
here is what happened in succession:
#18 had a deep cavity I was on my 2nd Delta dental PPO ENhanced family plan III (Insurance) when going to Nancy Grewal. Terry, her brother, is her biller but he was out for most of the summer taking care of another business and their mother who had a stroke.
After Grewal took care of #29 with root canal and started on 2nd root canal on #31 she told me I had run out of money under the Delta Dental $1000 dollar insurance plan and I was sure that wasn't the case & I was right. I contacted delta dental who told me that Grewal's office had not submitted the right reports and xrays for me to get reimbursed so there was a hold up. I contacted Terry who was back in the office and he agreed to contact delta dental but he never did.
I discovered after downloading all my dental claims from delta Dental that Grewal and her brother had overcharged me about $7&00 dollars but when I approached them Terry told me that it was only $191 dollars and Dr Grewal told me that she did not know anything about the billing and that she doesn't want to help me. Talk to Terry - is what she responded.
The overcharges from my records was close to $700 dollars.Terry said he would check it with Delta dental but he never did. Meanwhile when I asked him about the $191 dollars he said that was already incorporated in the $553 dollars Delta Dental paid me back. He is lying.
Terry was always out of the office even on the days he was scheduled to be in the office. There was never a reason and his office staff did not know when he'd be out. After my parnter Maryanne Patten & I kept after the office staff and Terry, the Biller; did we get a response from Delta Dental that Terry had submitted the right paperwork and xrays for me to get a reimbursement for $553.53 which was sent to Dr Grewal's office and in turn Terry wrote out a check to me. I picked up the check and informed him at that time that I was still owed $212 that I had paid out of pocket.
Delta Dental told me to go back and straighten this out with the dentist since the money was overpaid to the Dentist and therefore out of their jurisdiction. My partner has been to the office every day in the month of November 2015 to get Terry to read Delta Dental reports; 2 have been sent to his attention but he's never there.
We have left messages in person & on the phone, in letters given to the office staff and have threatned to sue. I tried contacting the NJ Dental Association who refused to help; and I was about to contact the State Dental Board but they were so rude on the phone (they were having a thanksgiving party) and the receptionist was very rude and left me with the impression that they couldn't care less. On the days my partner went there to drop off messages for the absent Terry the biller there were days the office was closed without explaination.
The last time we talked Terry the biller told me that I had to pay out of pocket to continue the root canal on #31 but I reminded him he owed me $212 dollars and he said he would have to call Delta Dental and he never did.
Recently their former dental hygenist, Helen is calling us telling us that Dr Grewal's office owes us $156 dollars and she was screaming that left in messages on the phone. She is taking up Terry the biller's job because he does not want to speak to us.
I have receipts totalling the amount of money owed for $212 dollars. I have never received any statements except one for $191 dollars and that was back in June 2015. This dentist is neglegent of her billing practices and her dental practice. i would sue her for malpractice or a class action suit because her business has fallen off. Dr Grewal used to extract teeth but due to her carpel tunnel on her right hand she is unable to continue that practice and she is often out of the office due to her pain but what about her patients?
On Monday, 11/23/15 I went to another dentist in the area under this plan and he told me tooth #18 is now rotten and needs to be extracted so now I'm losing the tooth becuase of Dr Grewal's negligence. Meanwhile this new dentist will be continuing my root canal on #31 and pulling #18.
I'm disgusted with Dr Grewal's practice and her brother Terry who is not there most of the time. He is behind in his billing if he's doing that at all and I'm sure that there are other patients who have left her because of these dental issues. The state board of dentistry was not at all sympathetic and frankly I didn't think they would help me so I'm writing to you.
