West 6th is the Condo/Apartment High Rise just off Mill Avenue in Tempe most well known for the following reasons:
1. The buildings sat vacant and unfinished for years after the owner of the company funding the project committed suicide. The name of his company was Mortgages Ltd. and you can look up the whole story
2. A man was savagely beaten in one of the elevators in 2012. It was caught on video and made the news several times
3. in 2013 several floors and many of the units flooded when a water main broke. In fact, they had to evacuate the building and many of the residents who were ASU students about to graduate could not even access their units to get clothes and basic necessities
Now that you know the background, take a look at what people are saying about this place:
"The staff makes you believe everything they show you is what you get, but in reality you're renting the tile floor. From $80 per month per car, to $30 for a parking sticker, to the $100 per floor height increase, you will NEVER stop paying these people. I had a light go out after 6 months and they told me it would be $5 a bulb to replace. The fridge comes with a water filter but you also have to pay $30 for a filter which only lasts 3 months.
When it comes to the amenities, 24/7 is far from true. They require you to check out a key or supplies at the front office. Are you lucky enough to live in tower 2? Well that means you either have to leave the building or you can fob yourself through 10 different locked doors just to get to the office in tower 1. The office is closed half the day anyway so hope by the time you get there its open and that what you wanted isn't already checked out. The movie room key has been checked out by the same girl since I moved in, they are aware, and told me next time I should get there before she does(I've been checking everyday for the past month now). If you chose to not turn in a key or pool sticks the same day you will be charged $50 without notice, so check your account frequently!
The staff is unbelievably rude and could care less about you since the contract you sign is unbreakable. As far as the elevators go, just be prepared to wait for the only elevator that's working for 15 min. and then it be too packed to get on. And if you were thinking you could run down 15 flights of stairs so your not late to work, try again, because the doors lock once you are inside and only one door opens (happy hunting!).
Do you like getting deliveries to your door? Then live somewhere else because there is a key to get up the elevator and you will have to meet Tim from Jimmy John's at the building entrance anyway.
After reading this and you still want to live in the West 6th because the building looks cool, then I suggest you get a lawyer before signing the lease."
"Elevators are constantly under repair. Management expects you to treat them like gods so they can treat you like a peasant. I might not be a resident, but going to w6 almost every day, and seeing how management treats residents and they harass the people I know, you won't get your money's worth, even though it's your money that pays for THEIR job. The only people who actually treat you with respect and try to help you are the security guards. They will actually try to get to know you and have a conversation with you. At W6, the resident never comes first and I know a LOT of people who will support this claim."
"I was paying $1400 for 660 square feet ( crazy right ) expecting the best of the best....Turns out the head woman running the place now does not care about standards or rules or repairing the damage as she does not train her staff or security to the rules and regulations. Also DO NOT move in the West side as the building the Tempe Fire Department will wake you through the night with their sirens, and the huge mega train, and the garbage is picked up at 4:30 am...course if you live on the east side Mill avenue night clubs will wake you till 2am....The Doorman will fob up anyone after 6 o clock...so if you want a free work out or a swim and jacuzzi just show up to tower 2 and he will let you in...???? ....hot water.....was a prayer in the morning..and the elevators breakdown 3 times a month....wait till you see the misters by the lounge chairs at the pool..twisted and dripping rusted water...oh and the 300 pound potted plant pulled into the pool and never replaced..cigarette burns in the lounge chairs...oh and tons of broken glass at the pool...ask about their last 4th of July when they had to shut down the pool with police tape because their crack security teams were not told of the rules of the pool...
DO NOT MOVE IN TO WEST 6TH..when i moved out i noticed that all the dollies donated had their tires slashed by disgruntled tenants..so don't ask for a dolly"
