I will preface this by saying I did eventually get my deposit back from Greg Salmon but it was quite painful and likely wouldn't have happened if I did not threaten him with taking the next steps to getting it back with my credit card company. What I learned from this experience is to ALWAYS research the owner of a condo I am renting from and to make sure I have a clear contract signed. I'm writing this report to hopefully warn others before renting from him.
Here is the sequence of events and you can decide for yourself:
I cancelled my reservation well in advance of his published 60 day 100% guarantee
His response was that he had a 90 day policy and he would have to post it and rent it
I told him that the VRBO site noted 60 days, not 90 (I also sent him a screen shot). He still insisted that it was 90 days. The next day the VRBO site was changed to 90 days
I then realized that my email was just within the 90 day mark as well by a couple of hours. I notified him but not response. I continued to email him over the next few weeks with no response. I called as well with no response.
I then started to pursue dispute options with my credit card company. I emailed and called Greg warning I would start the dispute process if he didn't refund my deposit within 24 hours.
I didn't hear back so started the process with the credit card company. I let Greg know that he would be hearing from them.
Two hours later he called and said that he had his wife send the check over a week ago
I received no check so I let the dispute continue.
I received the deposit in the mail finally (Note that the postmark was the very same day that I told him I was starting the credit card dispute, so he lied about his wife sending it a week prior)
So, with this info and with other similar reports from people that did not fair as well as I did, hopefully the community will see that you should never rent from Greg Salmon at all. He will lie and avoid and hope you go away so he can keep your deposit.
