Do not trust WePay as your payment processor! They engage in careless business practices.
They approved my registration, allowed me to send an invoice, allowed my client to pay the invoice, and then they notified me that they would not allow me to use there service and would be reversing the transaction. I reached out to support and they said my account was flagged as high risk for charge backs.
I asked why I was flagged as high risk, as I have been using other online payment services for years without any issues and never a single charge back. Patrick on their support team informed me that their review process was proprietary and that they would not tell me why.
I have since read various reviews across the internet that confirm this is a very common practice for WePay. The fact that they allow you to register does not mean that they will do business with you. This is very strange as the registration process included questions that could have served this purpose.
If this were a rare occurrence they could claim it was some second level review that caused the cancellation of service, but the magnitude of people complaining of this same scenario means that they are engaging in careless business practices and should not be trusted as a payment processor.
This begs the question of whether they are careless in any of the other processes that involve your confidential information.
I started a gofundme account and tried to put money in myself. Several days later I got an email from wepay that this was not allowed. Fine, however they kept the money, the refused to credit the account and then refused to release my money. Numerous emails have been ignored. I just want them to release the hold on my funds immediately.
These guys have been holding my money for three weeks. They don't answer phones. They don't answer emails. I am forced to receive payments from them because Meetup uses them. I hate WEPAY. It takes forever to get money, thye charge a ton, it just totally SUCKS.
I started a campaign with GoFundMe to raise funds for my friend Marijo Gillis who has ALS. A little under a thousand dollars came in and she cannot acces these funds which she desperately needs for food and basic expenses. The WePay people have been sending her as well as myself on a wild goose chase and she is unable to access her funds, nor am I able to help her access them, even though she gave me her bank account number.
We have organizational status with Meetup.com. We charge our members for events, movie tickets, luncheons, etc.. In the past, all credit card purchases were processed by PayPal. Within the past several months, Meetup.com had apparently set up an account for our organization to accept donations and event processing fees. Meetup set up this account with WePay, albeit without our permission. However, according to WePay, we have never setup the account. Due to the fact that we do not have an account with WePay, Meetup.com suggested to our group and to WePay, that WePay simply refund the incorrectly routed payments.
WePay will not refund our funds unless we open an account with WePay. Based on questionable ethics associated with WePay decision making and business practices, we have no interest in providing WePay with any confidential information.
WePay has threatened us to setup an account, or else WePay will refund each and every payment to our group's donors and purchasers of products, movie tickets, luncheons, etc. WePay's threat is sort of like a Robin Hood scheme. Collect fees and donations rerouted away from PayPal, then return same fees if we don't provide WePay with confidential information and agree to their rules.
Imagine if you sold something. WePay would give your customer back their money, and allow your customer to keep the product they purchased from you. It is wrong and illegal. However WePay executives do not seem to think it is a problem. Is this really extortion?
