I canceled my membership in writing in person in March of 2015. They lost the paperwork and continued to charge me and the fees and prices added up over several months after I canceled with tons of late fees and such.
The first I heard that they did not cancel it was recently from a collection agency (a full year later!). Now the fees are in the hundreds - such as 380 dollars. What they do is continue to charge you for only another three months, at which time they cancel your membership. So, why not cancel it when I called in?
They said if I could not produce proof of that paperwork, there is nothing they can do.
But in my opinion, there is no reason to create an onerous cancellation policy except to create situations like this where they can earn more money. It is a dishonest way to earn money. And I have no other recourse.
They offered to settle where I would only owe them 261, but again, for what? I did not use the gym during this time. They have evidence that I called in - they admit as much (so they admit knowing that I wanted to cancel) but say since they do not have evidence that I came in after that time to officially sign paperwork, I continue to be a member for three months.
I would like to not have to pay anything for the time between the time when I officially canceled with them and three months later, when they officially canceled my membership. I would like this to go off my credit report. I would like the collection agency to quit calling me.
I would also like Wellbridge to change this policy so that it does not affect others.
