Waste Management, Inc. Reviews

  • Oct 26, 2022

I was moving from my California Ranch and was in need of a small dumpster for the property, we had previously handled our own garbage and that was not feasible for my children when they are employed full time.

I contacted WM through the website to order a small dumpster ( 2 yard trash dumpster) equivalent of about 4 larger cans. The price quoted on the site of $84.60 a month , plus fees (gas? taxes?) of $54.10. This is an acceptable amount for a monthly service that comes once a week.

I was getting weekly phone calls and emails from a Shaun Russ. It was confusing and odd because I have never had a service basically throw themselves at me to find out how they are doing. At first we were hardly using the dumpster because there is only 2 people living at the house and a few pets making garbage. We did use the dumpster up good when I made a trip back from my new home state, to clean out some bedrooms. The container was very full.

A few months go buy and another person moves off the property and a large amount of trash is thrown in the container, everything was bagged, and the lid was cracked open from a bag not being pushed back/down far enough. It was open approximately 5 inches. The string of this white kitchen bag was hanging over the side. The other side had a bulky bag holding the lid up a bit, maybe 12 inches.. one kitchen bag worth. ( Photo by WM 9/28/2022)

I was unaware of this as I had already left the state months prior. 10/04 I got notice from WM that there was a problem with my container being overfull/filled incorrectly. There was a Zero fee post on that email, they did not state there would be any charges, or that they hadn't taken the container. I immediately started writing my kids as the threat of a fine was upsetting ( Even if it said Zero dollar on the fine). They stated they did take the container. Considering the email did not say there was a fine I warned them to be more careful not to not fill the container to the point that the lids would not close.

2 day after that email , on 10/06/2022 they sent me a new Invoice for $369.94. I immediately called, and told them that isn't Ok with me. I was not going to pay them $234 On top of my monthly bill just because a few bags where propping the lid open. I was explained, that the excessive garbage * Could be* a problem for the equipment, and that it endangers the safety of the driver to take excessive loads. I asked, if it was excessive- why would they even take the garbage- and not give me notice that there is a problem with the can to fix it ? She told me she had fixed the unreasonable charge, and that they will no longer take my container if there is a problem with it being overfilled.

Come to 10/25/2022 and I am billed for the $369.94 !! Livid is an understatement. I cannot get ahold of them on their 855 number. I am currently disputing the extra charges. They are STEALING from me, using a automated system, for an amount that was not agreed upon. They are a not allowed to just charge my card for something that they have 'feelings' that it 'could' be a problem. There was no problem, they dumped the garbage and didn't give us a chance to fix what they said the problem was- and this is from a company that was calling me excessively weekly for the first month of service.

STAY FAR AWAY FROM WASTE MANAGEMENT! @WasteManagement Our small business had been customers for years. We noticed our bill had gone from $153 a week in 2017 to $400.00 a week this year. An ex-employee was handling accounts payable and did not let us know how much it had increased. That is a reason to not use these thieves. This is for two of their cans.

They were constantly not picking up while saying their “GPS” said they did, well the full garbage cans stated differently. We would have to call and request a pick up, and then they did not show up when they said they would. It was seriously not worth the hassle anymore. We hit our limit.

We called to cancel our pick up and they said we can’t, as we signed a 3 year contract in 2017. Apparently, in the very, very, very small print it says they can automatically renew that. So small you can barely read it without a magnifying glass. They also say they can raise your rates but must notify you. Well, we were not notified, but they consider the fact you pay your bill is you agreeing to the increase. They say that is legal!

They have turned it over to their lawyers and said they will take us to court. We are a small business and just can not afford to pay this exorbitant rate for something they didn’t reliably provide, and we no longer need. But they say they legally will force us to pay for something we are not receiving, we have not put anything in their cans since February 24, 2022.

Please stay far away from Waste Management, as they are nothing but a crooked, waste themselves. Talk about Corporate Greed killing the little guy, they are prime examples.

They have charged my credit card for $37.44 and from what I can see about them, having not provided information with the transaction but a web address, they are not in my state and possibly not even my country.

I've never heard of this company. It seems they have hacked me from a purchase somewhere else. I intend to get to the bottom of it but certainly wouldn't do business with a company involved in such nefarious practices.

Waste Management has been charging me for overages for the past few years. Every time I try to leave, they say they won’t wave the fees and I will be stuck paying. I am a small bagel shop and spend north of 500 bucks a month on garbage removal.

Mind you most of these charges occurring during COVID. My outstanding balance is 2000.00 They went ahead and shut me off for non-payment of the OVERAGE charges. I have made sure to continue to pay my monthly fee. I just refuse to pay the overages. They of course did this on a weekend and now I have garbage everywhere.

I have had numerous conversations with reps and may even have an email that says just pay the monthly and forget the overages. They could not come up with solutions for me. I have 2 dumpsters. One that’s picked up every Monday and another that’s picked up every Wednesday Thursday Friday. The Sheer volume of that doesn’t even make sense.

Mind you this all started once the company decided it needed to generate more revenue and installed all these cameras on the truck. They snap photos no one looks at them and they automatically generate an overage charge of 150 bucks. I know they don’t look at them because when I speak to reps they look and say, "oh it was just one thing hanging over".

I have tried numerous times to work things out with them. I have had no luck. I have met with other companies that were willing to put into contract no overage charges at all. They were willing to pick me up every single day, if need be, to earn my business.

I want to run from these thieves, but I don’t want to be held liable for excess charges. Outside of rent and payroll my current garbage bill is my biggest expense. That’s simply ridiculous.

Even more absurd is the fact that Waste Management has shut me down and refuses to work with me at all. All they want to do is charge me more money. How much more should a small bagel shop pay? 600 bucks a month isn’t enough? My car payment is less than that.

Need help getting out of this mess or maybe finding someone within the Waste Management company with a heart that is willing to help the small guy. This continues I will be out of business and my stall all unemployed.

My office manager signed a contrat with WM 20 years ago. It started at $48.00 a month to empty a 2 yard dumpster one a month. I just signed the checks, never saw the invoice. Now I am paying the bills and noticed that the bill went up every single month. Gas prices going down and the gas surcharge went up. The last bill was just over $200.00/ month. I got a quote from Johns and the going rate was $38.00/month vs WM at over $200/month!!!

I called them and said that I wanted to fire them. They said that I have a 20 year old contract that self renews unless I send a certified letter within 60+ days but no more than 6 months from the next expirations date. I had to get ripped off of $160.00 per month for about 6 months until the contract was gone.

One time we overfilled the dumpster and they charges me over $300,00 that month. They added a $86.00 overfill fee. The new guy Johns, only charges $38.00 per month. Can you call that anything but a SCAM and a RIPOFF?

Over Feb 26th, we had a snow storm. It caused our trash to not be picked up due to inclement weather conditions. This was not a problem. Weather happens. The problem comes 2 weeks later on March 12th when the driver for Waste Management fails to pick up our garbage again.

The snow had melted, and there was no reason for a further delay in service. I called WM and talked with Ann Sheire and asked them why they hadnt picked my trash up. I was informed that the driver had claimed that it was impossible to get to the dumpsters due to the snow. She shared this picture with me that the driver had sent in to "confirm" that he wouldnt get to our dumpster.

That isnt even a picture of my street. I then sent this picture to prove that the driver was misleading them, and asked if they could come and take the 4 weeks of trash that had built up? I got an email back from Ann that said:

"What a beautiful area – that countryside looks amazing! But I agree with you, this perspective looks pretty clear and it appears as if our drivers have clear access to all three of the dumpsters shown in this picture.

I will pass this along to our local dispatch team for your area and will try to get feedback from the driver as to what he is referring to in the photo he took indicating “inaccessible due to weather” conditions.. Clearly, there is a significant difference.

Thanks so much for sharing, I really appreciate your efforts. I will follow-up with you as soon as I can and thanks again!"

In this time, I had called back Waste Management and talked to a second person, Gage Prenovost. He also asked me for pictures, which I sent. Remember, all I had asked for at this point was for them to pick up the trash that they were responsible for. The exact response I got from Gage was:

"Thank you for that information- I am unable to get a driver back out they will not approve it even with the pictures sent."

I replied that we are not a waste holding facility, and that 6 weeks worth of trash was unreasonable to ask us to hold onto. I told him that this might be the thing that gets us to cancel our service. His reply was

"Hello *****,

Please call into cancel service."

So I did. I took my trash to the dump, and I am writing the world so they know how I was treated. This isnt unique. All of our neighbors told us we were making a mistake when they saw the green dumpster with the yellow and white lettering. They all told us that WM would abuse us and that we would see why they all used the dump.

Lesson learned.

This is the worst company! Lies lies lies. And they have monopolized local government with a contract that I want no part of. I should be able to pick any service not be forced to use the GARBAGE MAFIA. I've been asking anthony montesano to pick up a dumpster from a closed location that my old partner signed for. He is trying to extort more money from me and refusing to pick up the dumpster. They are rude ignorant people that treat customers like dirt. They can do this because we have no choice in who we can use for garbage. #STOPTHEGARBAGEMAFIA

  • Oct 13, 2018

Every week in California, The garbage men never comes by our neighborhood to pick up our trash and our recyclables. They just ditched us for no reason. They will add insult to injury by giving us these bills that we don't know and services that we don't use. They should change their names from Waste Management into Waste of our Management. Do not use Waste Management.

Cancelled the service as the house was sold - the closing date was in the middle of the 3 month period. Even though Waste Mgt collects up front for the period - i was informed they do not issue refunds.

Consumer BEWARE! Waste Managements business practices are very shady at best. Once you sign a contract, they jack up the prices and make it nearly impossible to cancel service. I received multiple quotes for service to compare recently and WM is 3 times higher in cost. The fine print requires you to cancel 90-180 days before the end of the contract by certified mail or the contract renews for 3 YEARS! You are then stuck because the cost to cancel is astronomical. I managed to cancel within the correct time period however the company won't return any phone calls or emails, they haven't responded to the cancellation and won't remove the containers.

I have sat on hold after numerous phone calls to get the correct department for 30 minutes to an hour and didn't get any results. This company has to trap you into a contract for an unreasonable length of time in order to keep your business. Upon cancellation of contract, I received a docusign agreement every single day for 2 months trying to get me to re-sign but still no response to the cancellation. If you choose to go with WM do yourself a favor and read what you are agreeing to. It is 10 pages of crap but there are a few important details to know before signing. Better advice would be to go with another compnay that works to keep your business instead. They have a lot of competition out there!

Waste Management delivered a dumpster and, when called to remove it, refused to and are charging daily. They say that the ground is too soft, though there has been no rain or snow in the area for over a week (unlike the day they delivered it, when it had rained a few days before). The driver didn't mention that removing it could be an issue (understandable, as it is in a highly accessible area). It could have been left literally anywhere in the yard, closer to the road, or in the neighbor's paved driveway. When I called to ask what could be done, I was told that the online form warns that they can leave it on your property indefinitely (and charge indefinitely), if they have trouble getting it out...which is entirely at their word. I am beyond frustrated, as I am now paying daily for something and have no idea when they will decide to remove it.

I recently built my own home. In the process of setting up or building I was told by Waste Management that it was required that I rent a dumpster from Waste Management because the city in which I live used Waste Management for rensidential pcik-up.

I was given a figure but when on the day I asked for delivery of the dumpster the price was inflated which angered me, but I believed I had no recourse.

Shortly after the dumpster arrived I noticed that contractors in the area did not have the Waste Management dumpsters and asked why they didn't and was told that they were not required. I was livid and called Waste Management and demanded they pick up their dumpster.

I paid over $400.00 for the delivery of the dumpster and thought I was done with it. About two weeks later I received another bill for over $1,100.00 and refused to pay it. Since then I have been badgered by them through email, telephone, and the regular post.

This is not an honorable company. Do not do business with them.

On Wednesday, June 13, 2017, I did an on line chat with Raquel, a customer service rep from Waste Management, who told me I would get a new container on Friday, June 16, 2017. Not only did I not get a new container, they never emptied my green containers. My green containers, four of them, stayed on the curb, taking up valuable parking space, the entire weekend!

They just took my recycling container and they never delivered a new one! I did not request that they take it! There was nothing wrong with it! My trash bill is paid up and I’m never late paying it! It has been two weeks and my recycle trash is getting out of control! I need my recycling trash can back today!

Waste Management - I was over 30 days late in paying my invoice for period 3/1/17 through 4/30/17. Invoice was paid 1 day AFTER the due date. I received my next invoice for period 5/1-6/30 it was paid in full. I was charged a late fee of $5.00 for the previous period, but no other delinquent charges were noted. Just this week I received another invoice for the same period of 5/1-6/30. But this time it was for a total of $56.84 which included a $38.00 resume fee from April PLUS $13.84 in fuel/environmental charges and regulatory cost recovery charges and another $5.00 admin fee. I understand that although I feel the "resume" fee of $38.00 in addition to a late fee (previous month) is a rip off, I will not be able to fight that. However, I was already charged and paid the full the regulatory fees for that same invoice. I called and confirmed this duplicate invoice was only for the "resume service fee" and argued how they could charge fuel and recovery fee's AGAIN, and it was wrong to double charge me for a service that was not provided. The customer service rep I spoke to agreed and asked a supervisor, which refused to speak with me and relayed a message that it was company policy. To charge fuel fee’s on every invoice. This is FRAUD! They are charging me for a service that was never provided and for a service period where I have already been charged and paid those same charges. Also, a resume fee AFTER they charged me a late fee; maybe that is legal, but is seems wrong.

Waste Management is a big scam. They tie you with a three-year contract that includes a yearly 14% raise and an outrageous penalty for early cancellation.

Obviously the terms are all in very fine print, and no one mentions any of these terms when you first call to hire their service. Before you sign any agreement with these people, be aware of the scam! If you want to cancel, you will go through a nightmare of collection threats for breach of agreement, unwanted calls and unwanted visits. I would like to know who on earth would accept such terms if they were clearly stated?

This is what I call a dishonest company that is not clear about the terms of their service, and, worst of all, makes use of fine print to extort money out of their customers.

When you try to cancel, they offer you to keep the same rate for another year, but only if you agree to sign a new 3-year agreement under the same despicable terms. It would be a joke if it weren't so sad.

What a corrupt company in my experience. Have you read their contract? Slanted entirely in their favor and full of legal jargon. I should have hired an attorney to review it but who thinks of doing that with signing up for trash removal. It basically gave them a license to steal from me. But I do take responsibility for it. So all I can do is spread the word to everyone I know and meet about the mistakes I made. Do not ever use this company if you can avoid it. Share the word and shop aroud before they pressure you into their absurd 3 year contract and raise prices at will. And try to complain to them about it or at least receive an explanation and you will just be wasting your time. They wont reply to your email and don't return phone calls. Follow up is non existent. Very disapointed with this company

We bought a property 8 months ago. There was a 40 yard dumpster full of trash in the back left by the previous owner who we found out later is a total dirt bag. We called waste management and reported the dumpster and asked them to pick it up. Them came over and refused to haul it saying it was too full. Being the new owner and wanting this massive trash can off my property I climbed into this dirty thing and removed trash getting it to what they had requested. I called them and asked them to come get it. They said they had no dumpster at my property it had already been picked up. I went back and forth with these guys for months. I finally called them one day and advised them I would begin the labor I intensive process of removing all trash from there Dumpster and I would recycle the metal dumpster itself. They came the same day and took it. I was so happy. Several months later I started a service with WM for a weekly 3 yard Dumpster.

They immediately sent me a bill for $970.00 for the previous dumpster. I called they said I was recorded and through voice analysis they determined I was the person who ordered the old dumpster. I called ******** and demanded they remove those charges from my account. They agreed and said they would remove the charge and go after the old owner. They appologized. Today for the 3rd time I have spoken to WM collections and we have had the same conversation. They are unable to get the old owner because he left the state and has given an attorneys office as his forwarding address. The old owner never changed his address. We send his mail back regularly with not at this address. WM is simply attempting to wear us down for the old owners bill. My next step is to sue for storage of their dumpster on my property for roughly 5 months and attempts to latch on to my good credit as a form of extortion.

I was a customer of waste management for my garbage removal. My account was paid up to date, but they were not picking up my trash. I canceled my service because they were not picking up my garbage. When I called their customer service, the driver did not even know where I lived. Now they have the nerve to charge me $120.00 for service I never received.
