The morning of Oct 14 I contacted David Stanley at War Horse Harley Davidson. I inquired as to what he could help me with getting out of a motorcyle I still owed on and whether a friend could use it as a trade in and get me out of it. I explained to him I was willing to co sign if it wouldn't go on my credit. I specifically asked if it would not be on my credit.
Now, to be sure, I'm not that finacially savvy. I run a very small (successful) business, for 15 years now, and someone else takes care of the books. But, I treat my customers with honesty and respect, and I expect the same. I should have known better, but I was trusting Mr Stanley as I've done business with them (prior to ownership change) many times. 1 week prior, I purchased 2017 Street Glide from them. I also purchased a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado from their dealer group the same day Ernest Williams was trading in my Harley on his.
As I was on my way to Homosassa to purchase the 2013 Silverado, David Stanley called me. He informed me that yes, he could get the deal done if Mr Williams had $2500 down, and he could deliver it today (Oct 14). He then called me back and informed me that Mr Williams was on his way to pick up his motorcycle, and that all I had to do was come by and sign some paperwork on my way back from their dealership in Homosassa. Mr Williams paid them the $2500, got his insurance, and drove away with his motorcycle.
On my way back from Homosassa I stopped by War Horse Harley Davidson to meet Mr Stanley. He informed me I had some paperwork to sign and it wouldn't take but a minute. He handed me a stack of papers, I signed them, and I was on my way in less than 10 minutes. I was given no copies of any paperwork.
Satuday, Oct 21, I learned the motorcycle was titled in not only Mr. Williams name, but mine as well. Admittedly, I learned, too late, that I just bought another motorcycle that someone else insures, rides, and keeps possession of. But, that is a direct result of what Mr Stanley informed me would not happen. For any business to take advantage of people through deceptive trade practices is simply wrong. If he'd told me straight, I'd never done the deal. It would have been like just handing my motorcycle to someone and saying, "here, take it, make the payments and insurance". Which I would never do.
On Sunday, Oct 22 I drove to War Horse Harley Davidson. I spoke to a middle aged man who represented himself as the manager. I had just learned that the vehicle was registered in both names, and my name was on top. I inquired as to where my paperwork was and why I was on the registration. I was informed that my paperwork was in accounting and he then stated to me that "There are no cosigners, only co buyers". I, as of Nov 15, have yet to receive any paperwork nor correspondence from War Horse Harley Davidson.
Being the finance man, who just 1 week prior financed my motorcycle, he could have informed me of the ramifications of what I was doing instead of what he'd told me prior.
The resolution is easy. Harley credit will buy basically ANYONE with $2500 down. They're doing everything they can to get rid of way excess inventory. They need to redo the paperwork, get the loan and bike in Mr Williams name only, and do as I was promised from them.
I also have a recorded phone conversation authorized by him on the evening of 12/12/2017 Where he slipped and stated that I cosigned. Beware do not let the finance department mislead you!
