Walter's Mercedes-Benz of Riverside Reviews

  • Jun 3, 2018

Approximately 6 months ago I took in my ML 350 diesel to repair a seal leak (apparently my vehicle had a design flaw) that was causing me to lose a court a month and which they had quoted me less than $2300 to repair. I had done regular service on my vehicle at Walter's and I had no other issues with the vehicle. A week into the repair they hit me up for a few more thousand in "other repairs" that had nothing to do with the seal that was bad. I begrudgingly agreed because they assured me that there were no other issues and my vehicle only had 125k miles which as a diesel that was less than a quarter of its minimum life expectancy. Approximately a month later I picked up the vehicle, was told it was good to go and drove off after paying them over $5,000.

Two or three days later, and less than 50 miles later, the check engine oil light came on. I was on the 91 just minutes away from Walters so I took it in for them to check it out (at this point I thought they must have forgot to add the oil back after the repair). Approximately a month later and multiple stories and additional parts being "thrown at the problem" we are at the point I need another $9,000 in repairs for unrelated parts. I complain that I would not have done the first repairs if that wasn't going to fix the problem, that it seemed suspicious that I was still losing oil only at a faster rate but they have my vehicle hostage. After some complaining and wrangling they agree to $6,000 which they start on.

Approximately 2 months later I pick up the new practically rebuilt engine. I am approximately $12,000 into a vehicle worth between 15-23k in resale value. I am again assured that the vehicle is "fixed" and that they have "thoroughly road tested it" (thus the unbelievable repair time). I drive off unhappy at the way they have tricked me, dropped the ball over and over, and not been concerned about taking quick care of me but glad to have a "practically new" vehicle. Less than 100 miles later and approximately 4-5 days later the "check engine oil" light goes on. I contact them about bringing it back in and surprise surprise my "customer service" dummy doesn’t respond. I call his manager and he says bring it in. I drop it off nervous about their competence but repeatedly assured they would take care of me.

Over a month later I get an email that says, "we have verified the oil issue" ... of course that told me nothing so I ask for clarity. I get a short email ... we verified that you need a new engine. I said that unacceptable and they said basically "tough". I ask for the owner or gm or corporate attorney to contact me. I get the sales manager call instead. A truly slimy sales person who promises to do me right. I spend several hours with him trying to "sell" me a new Mercedes with a few percentage points off and an offer to take my "worthless" vehicle that they spent months and $12k of my dollars "fixing" off my hands for $6k. When I ask about compression rates (what any diesel mechanic would do before saying the engine was blow) they say, "we didn't check that."

When I ask them to be reasonable they essentially tell me to "f'off" and they give me back my vehicle that barely runs without any written explanation or details on what went wrong (what they did wrong). When I show it to another mechanic they point out that the "new turbo" they installed is a used turbo and he shows me that the Mercedes logo is peeling off. Their only response is to repeatedly say "it has 125k miles" but when I bought this off the show room floor Mercedes specifically warranted/assured me that the "bluetec" was designed to last over 500k miles with proper care (which I did) and that it was environmentally friendly (which I am finding in my research they falsified emission results). Walters Mercedes is incompetent, crooked, dirty, dishonest, evil, corrupt, etc. They bilked me out of $12,000 dollars in "repairs" and returned me with a vehicle 100% worse than it was when I took it in.
