As all phone companies do Vonage bills in advance requiring payment before services. After experiencing extensive service interruptions the first two years I elected to pay my bill after services were provided at the end of the month and I've been paying that way the past 8 years. This month I was shut off after 20 days without advance notice that their policy changed demanding a reconnect fee before restoring service.
When I signed up, it was not clear that they planned to more than double my bill in six months. The phone quality was poor, but I had just been putting up with it. Once the bill went up, it wasn't tolerable anymore! I called to cancel, and was informed that they would be charging an $80 "early termination fee." Do not let this company trick you into a contract. This dispute is ongoing, so I can't post the outcome yet. However, after reading others' reviews, I'm not optimistic!
Several years ago I signed up for Vonage VOIP telephone service at my house. After my contract was over, I tried to cancel my service which was a very lengthy process in itself. Several months later they were still charging my credit card. It took several phone calls and emails to get them to admit it was cancelled and they still kept chargin my card. Eventually I had to cancel my card to get them to stop and then they tried to send me to a collection company for something like $12. I swore I would not use them again. But, several months ago I decided to give them another change and signed up again on thier "pay as you go" month-to-month plan. And, again, when I did not use the service for about 6 months, I tried to cancel and they would not let me.
Bottom line is; Signing up for Vonage is easy and the service is OK. But if you ever decide to cancel, good luck...it is a nightmare and they will continue to bill/charge you for as long as they can. Overall, I have been forced to pay for a service that I have not used for about 1 year.
DON’T EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THIS HORRIBLE COMPANY, EVER! When signing up for their business service 9 years ago, They cancelled all my listings in local phone books and said it was “per my request”! WHAT? What company would ever want to cancel it’s phone book listings? That’s when I should have dropped them, but I didn’t. It only got worse. After negotiating a new rate plan with them 6 months ago, My phone bill was to be lowered by $85.00 per month. Now after 5 months they say I owe an additional $544.00 (which includes late fees and charges) because they claim that rate fee reduction never happened, even though I have a recorded conversation of it. They now hold my number hostage until I pay $544.00. THEY ARE CROOKS!
I called and was given 3 phones that was suppose to be free. Never once did they state I had a contract or that the account had to be activated for 90 days. Was told I could activate the account at anytime and that I wouldn't be billed until I use the phone. Well my card was billed 10 days after speaking with the accoutn mananger at a price that was agreed upon. Never received phone information or anything. Attempted to call and cancel and pretty much they tried to bully me into staying and offer to give me a credit for the month I was billed and told me the first month would be on them at which it shoul because I never used service. So pretty much as a small business they billed me shipping of $50 dollars and $130 for phone service never used and now they was to bill me $450 for phones that can only be used on there network. $630.00 to company that never once sent me a phone number or offered me service.
Yesterday,i called vonage rep to find out why i couldnt keep my old phone no.[verizon]. when i first signed w/vonage[7/2016] they said i could keep my old no. i called several times and was assured i could keep prior no.-i did not keep it and was assigned a new no. by vonage. they now want $9.99 to reinstate previos ph. no. do not sign w/vonage. its a surprise nearly every day.
Vonage refused to allow my porting out a phone number that I had ported in years before from another carrier. The account payments were up to date with sufficient weeks to make the transfer. They repeatedly promised responses to my emails for an explanation, but never did.
Phone calls to their customer service department revealed a disconnect between them and the internal operations department making decisions. There is a failure to communicate between departments that should have accurate information.
There were those who claimed to understand the process, but only engaged in creative unresponsiveness. The constructive evidence shows that Vonage was attempting to exact continued payments for unwanted service. I refused the continued service which was eventually terminated without the release of the phone number.
We had automatic annual renewal for our phone service. We wanted to switch the service. Called the customer service and required. They said any time we can disconnect and get prorated refund. After we disconnected now they are refusing to refund stating the terms of contractt which was not explained when we called earlier.
I have never signed any contract agreeing to an early termination fee, Vonage is ripping the consumer off at 9.99 a month plus tax and fees let alone 29.95 a month. I was not told i was under obligation when I purchased my device at Walmart the product i purchased did not work I already activated service so vonage sent me a new device that was extra they did not tell me there was an early termination fee at all. I switched my phone number to magic jack to make it more affordable then called to cancel with Vonage they tried to get me to stay for 6.00 dollars a month i declined then they told me well there is an early termination fee ( I did not sign a contract and I did not authorize 123.95 transaction on my credit card.) This was clearly misrepresentation of a product agreement and sly practice on vonages behalf.
