To our surprise, this real estate investment firm is still in full operation as of 2021. Several years ago we met the CEO Mr. Juan Llaca only briefly at a networking event. We were directed to their business development officer at the time in Q1 of 2018 (who also is an attorney). We had a good relationship with him because we ended up finding out we have a long distance family tie with him. Long story short, we have a network of family offices and were offered to potentially invest in one of their current and potential hotel developments.
We thought of the idea of bringing investment capital to one of their hotel properties. At the time it sounded good, we reviewed the materials we were given. We didn't end up moving forward with it. After our months of due diligence and communication with our legal council. We discovered a lot of information, unfortunately, it seems we only just touched the surface. Including the background of Mr. Llaca and his history. This review is long over-due, but we were advised to get the word out there for others.
It wasn't just because of the current global situation now we are still experiencing, but the lack of professional management of these hotels as well. Our sources told us, several letters of complaints by phone from customers and from the BBB of the health and sanitation of the hotel was not good at all (Not clean, Cockroaches, don't want to mention the rest). Since this firm has multiple hotels spread across, the lack of manage and professionalism of staff operating these properties thus hurting their reputation and revenue. Another source close to one of our family members. Mentioned the unprofessional of their internal management staff. Including Timmery Richie Kalka of HR, her aggression, demeanor and unstable behavior. Giving a cut throat like culture in the firm and its young employees. Juan Llaca, his lack of communication to his staff and business clients. A sort of arrogant -like demeanor, very vague and not straight forward as a businessman. We mention this because on top of everything we stated and found out. If the work culture is not organized. How could a business person expect returns and invested money into their potential developed properties work out in good favor?
We still wish them the best of luck in business. Although we are late to this review and did not get money taken from us, our sources advised us to write a review to let the public be aware, and judge during their due diligence stage and prior contact with this firm or investment capital.
