I would like to start by saying that although I feel the amount paid for a red light violation is a lot, $158, the practice is not illiegal. The best you can do is _try_ to not run red lights nor be hit from behind because you're now gun-shy of being caught by the red light.
The company, ViolationInfo.com, cites the following:
"What is a red light running violation?".... includes statutes
Florida Statutes ยงยง 316.0083, 316.074(1) and 316.075(1)(c)1
This is a call for those who have received a notice and who are planning to pay it, please do so without incurring their 'convenience fee' of $7.90.
"I also understand that if the NOV is affirmed by the court and/or local hearing
officer, that I am responsible for the payment of the original penalty plus up to $250.00 in local fees as set forth
in F.S.S. 316.083 (5)"
So if you fight it and lose - and you will lose - it is then $250.
I logged on and, in fairness, I did (just barely) enter the intersection after the light turned red. My football coach/civics teacher/driver's ed teacher would not have been pleased.
