Value Plus Inc. Reviews

  • Jul 5, 2020

They have got into my bank account and have removed 24.95 and then removed 1.21 and other small amounts of money at different times from my account.

A monthly charge, $24.95, was somehow set up on one of our credit card without our knowledge. We did not notice it for months. I do not really know how much they scammed us for. My husband recently died and I (wife) took over paying bills and could not think of what this could be. I called my credit card company; they immediately took it off.

I have no idea what WC MON Value Plus does, or where they're located, except zip code 55305 in Minnesota, or how they got my credit card account number. Discovered they'd been billing me $24.95 a month, July 2016 through April, 2017.

I wasn't using my credit card, only paying it down, so rarely looked at the charges -- until I saw that they'd billed me in the current month, the date a day that I didn't purchase anything at all and never left the house.

I don't know these people, never bought or ordered anything from them, don't know what kind of business they're in, except credit card fraud. My bank has reversed the charges for three months, and I doubt I'll get anything back on the rest of the charges. Just want to publicize these criminals as far as possible, make this company as notorious as the Nigerian banker, and get them to shut down. But I suspect they'll just re-open under another name. By the way, I suspect they already use other names, quite a few complaints about these folks on a Google search, and with several different addresses.

If anyone has experienced an issue with Value Plus, Magazine Rewards Plus, the Travel and Leisure Club or any other membership subscription offered by Sempris, take note. These may have been "sold" to you while you were placing an order by telephone for products advertised on television.

Although many of the reports here state that the individual "did not authorize the charges," the agent selling these programs did, in fact, read the terms and conditions of the sale. They may have done so very quickly so that you wouldn't have time to process the information, but they are required to do so or risk losing their job. The calls are all recorded, so your "yes" "okay" or "um hum" response is on tape, which is how the company gets by with stating that you authorized the charges. During the sales pitch, the agent is REQUIRED to provide the toll free cancellation telephone number. Please write it down.

The caveat here is, please PLEASE listen to the person who you're speaking with if you are ordering anythiing by telephone. This company tacks on their pitches at the end of the product sale, so you are probably sick and tired of listening to the person on the phone and just want to get things over with. They know you're ready to say "yes" to anything just to be able to hang up. If you are asked for your credit card number and expiration date a second time during a sales call, STOP. When you provide this information (and generally they also ask you to press the pound key on your phone afterward) you ARE authorizing them to charge you after the 30 day trial period is over.

If you want to cancel, please do NOT call the telephone number you called to order your product. The agent on the line does not have any direct relationship with Sempris. Look through the paperwork you receive; it should have a customer service telephone number or a cancellation number. It will also have a membership number on it, which you will have to use to cancel or make changes to your membership.

Sempris, aka Value Plus, aka Travel and Leisure Club, aka Magazine Rewards Plus, has been cited hundreds of times for deceptive sales practices and for their billing practices. They have cleaned up their act somewhat, but many of the changes amount to CYI measures rather than improvements in customer service or in the value of what they are selling (discount programs). They count on people forgetting to cancel, throwing away their membership information so that they don't have the proper information to cancel, and generally not using the services they signed up for.

Remember - there are no free lunches in the world. You need to ask why any company would offer you a $50 gift card and a $20 rebate on your purchase just to try them out for 30 days. They would have to KNOW that the ROI on that offer is at least twice what they gave you to make it worthwhile.

I was promised a $20-cash back and a $50- gift card. No purchase necessary, all I needed was to agree to try the trail coupon package which I did and I could cancel at any time. To this day March 17, 2016 I have received nothing. This program is a total ripoff and not fair to potential consumers. Roxanne Jones, ************
