I had a client purchase a horse and hired Leigh when found through uShip.com. The horse was to be picked up at my place on Tuesday am at 530. Monday I asked that the shipper could call me to confirm timing, as I do not live at the farm and needed to not only go to the farm but pick the horse up to meet her because of the size of the rig. By 4:00 am on Tuesday I still had not heard from her (I called her and text her the evening prior). By 450am I had text her to confirm times. By 510 there was still no response so I began calling. Radio silence. I called the trainer of the client, in Tennessee and expressed the lack of communication. At which time she also tried to call and text Leigh to no avail. It was not until 532 either of us heard from her. She claimed she would call in 20 minutes (never did). She told the trainer that she had a hard loader and couldn't communicate with us because she was holding it and trying to get a vet to come tranquilize it.
We understand things happen, but it takes ten seconds to send a text message or phone call.
Later Leigh claimed this horse was at her farm, in North Whales Pa. which is approx an hour from my farm. Now for her to be on time she would've had to have been loading this horse around 4:15-430 am. We are supposed to believe she couldn't take ten seconds to MAKE A PHONE CALL saying you're late? Ridiculous. Her website claims "Keeping in touch with our clients is one of our main goals. With the beauty of technology helping out, it is easy to be transparent and keep you appraised of current conditions throughout the trip. " Which is the complete opposite of what we've encountered. At this point, I had another commitment and had to continue on with my day. When we asked what time she would be arriving we got ZERO response from her. She later text me and told me to call her when I was done with that. Both myself and the client started asking around and doing more research and found that she had done this to three individuals alone that I knew and I was able to find a rip off report from just a few days earlier detailing their also horrible experience! We had decided to move on and look for another shipper at this point since the communication was lacking and there was no schedule set forth. When Leigh saw I had made a post looking on Facebook she started blowing up our phones with calls and text messages. Overall, a disappointing experience to say the least. Will not recommend to anyone.
Leigh was very sweet and professional until she had my horse. She lies, manipulates, uses profanity, yells, and even threatens people. She is very unprofessional and does not maintain her equipment (truck/trailer).
Per our contract - she was to pick him up in TN and take him to NC (550 mi); picking him up on Thursday morning and delivering him on Friday morning. She said that she was going right through there on a route so it was easy. This turned out to be far from the truth.
I work out of state and so had to hire a transporter. She was to pick up my horse after another in AL. She picked my horse up first and even changed the meeting location to fit her needs instead of what was convenient for her client. When I called to pay for my transport she told me that I needed to pay cash when my horse was picked up.
I told her that I was out of state and could not do that – and that this was not what we had discussed previously. She tried to tell me that she thought that her system had been hacked and that she was doing it for my own safety. I told her that was why I was paying with AmEx and that I was confident that it would be ok.
She does not take routes that are pre-planned with you, she does not tell you where she is on the route, and she constantly changes her story of when she will arrive.
She claimed the whole time that she was taking good care of my horse. She even texted me at one time “He loves apples. I hope he is permitted to have them?” I NEVER gave her permission to give my horse ANYTHING except the food that I sent with him! My husband had prepared 2 bags of pre-portioned feed and also sent an unopened 50lb bag. I called her and asked if she was giving him the feed that I sent with him and asked her how often she was feeding him. She said “2x per day – is that correct?” I said that was fine but he is not to have ANYTHING except the food that I sent. He is a Friesian and cannot have sweet feed or anything with molasses or alfalfa in it. (NOTE: when she dropped my horse off the barn manager said that he got the bag of feed out of the bed of the truck – laying in a pool of diesel fuel and unopened! I have no idea WHAT she fed my horse or IF she ever fed him!)
She claimed that her truck broke down in Lexington, KY (nowhere near the route we had discussed)! I asked her if my horse was still in the trailer (it was very hot that day). She said “no, she would never do that” so I asked her to inform me of where my horse was – she said that she didn’t have to tell me that. So, I asked her to send me a picture to prove that he was in a stable/pasture as she said. She said that she was not at the barn at that time but would send me one when she went in the morning and would let me know when they were leaving. The next morning I texted her several times for the picture. She did not send it. When I finally got ahold of her about 10:30 AM she said that she was on her way and had the pictures and would send them when she stopped for gas in about 15 mins. An hour passed and I still heard nothing, so I called her again. She said that she hadn’t stopped yet but my horse was fine. When she did finally send me a picture (another hour later) is was a picture of him in the trailer! I have no idea if my horse EVER left that trailer!
Then she called me when I was at work and started cussing me out and threatening me that she was going to sue me for harassment! (my husband had gone to the local sheriff’s office to report the horse stolen since she was already over 24 hrs late for delivery and would not let us know where she was at with him)! I was at work and had to try to handle her while not looking unprofessional to my coworkers. She was ranting on how she had just dropped a pony off in MD and he had unloaded just fine. I told her that my business was not the other horses but MY horse. (When I questioned her later in a conversation of what she was doing in MD before she dropped my horse off she denied everything and said that it was another driver for her.) I found out later that the people receiving my horse and my husband were trying to find out her location and when she would deliver and all she would do is tell them that she did not have to tell them anything and that she was going to sue them for harassment and did nothing but talk trash about me and my horse!!!
My poor boy was only supposed to spend 9 hrs in her trailer and spent close to 60 hrs in it!!!
BEWARE!!! She does not listen to the horse’s owner, receiving party, or anyone else – she does whatever she wants with your horse after she has him!!!
I would NEVER recommend this company to my worst enemy. Leigh was very rude and lied quite often to me (horse owner), my trainer, and barn managers. I was supposed to receive my horse on Friday but her story changed MULTIPLE times and I did not receive him until Sunday afternoon. This would have been acceptable if she communicated that to me from the beginning. When asked for updates, she stated she did not need to give me an itinerary of the horses she has on board with my horse. While this is true--I did NOT ask for an itinerary--but simply asked for an ETA from the first conversation we had. She was unable to provide me with one all weekend. She would beat around the bush giving me broad answers such as "tomorrow morning" "Saturday afternoon". When I asked for a specific hour she thought she would be at barn (as I have a family and my barn manager needed to be there since none of us live on property) she finally told me Saturday by 6-7pm. First of all, last I checked, 6-7pm is not afternoon. So it was nice to be lied to again and lead on to believe my horse would have been home...Friday evening, Saturday morning, and then Saturday "afternoon". She hung up with me Saturday around 3pm letting me know she's leaving a pony on trailer and heading straight to my barn "now." She called barn manager and told her she wants to drop pony off first since pony is an hour and a half away from where she is and then my horse. Why has the story changed? Barn manager told her that my horse was on trailer too long and its inappropriate. Leigh then asked for a stall to let pony rest. This would have been okay if there was a stall available but the barn is completely full. Leigh was upset with barn manager telling her there are no stalls to accommodate to the pony she had on her trailer. So Leigh rudely told barn manager I would get my horse between 9-10pm. Interesting because ten minutes prior she told me 6-7pm. Furthermore, Leigh herself never called me to let me know if the time change (as well as every other update Leigh failed to tell me).
I texted Leigh at 630pm Saturday letting her know I would leave my house in an hour as the barn is an hour away from me. No response. At 758pm I called her to confirm we're still on track to meet tonight. She did not answer call but texted me stating she would call me in five minutes. This did not happen. I called again at 828 after she did not call in five minutes as stated per her text. Nothing. At this point I knew something was off and I would not see my horse that night. I called again at 842pm and nothing. My husband then texted me "I spoke to her. He will be here tomorrow at 2pm." My horse was at another barn overnight. In MICHIGAN. (My barn is in Chicago). This would have been okay if WE planned this would happen. It would have been okay if she told me in advance. The very last conversation I had with her she stated "I'm entering Indiana coming straight to you. I'm not dropping the pony off because your horse has been on trailer longer" so how am I not notified of this change of route and ETA?! She promises that she'll always update and notify owner but clearly made the decision drove however long she had to drive with the intention of keeping my horse overnight in an unfamiliar barn BEFORE consulting me. She continues to talk about DOT laws as if I don't understand when I clealrly understand. I never minded nor asked her to rush or break any laws. I simply asked for an ETA and for her to honor it. When a hauler books these different horses for different routes, one would hope it was planned out in advance and every horse will have their own eta.
Now I understand horses are not easy to haul and things happen. I even told her I can't stand driving 40 minute drive to work so I don't know how she does it. For my horse to arrive on Sunday rather than Friday, something clearly is not right. The next morning she said she would notify when he was loaded. She did not. I had to text her. She called and told me she left an hour prior and would be there this "afternoon". This is hard because more than one person is involved and will be awaiting horses arrival. Finally I asked what her GPS says her eta is? She finally responded 1230. Then she went quiet again. I wanted a confirmation when I left to barn that I won't be waiting as I did the night prior. Nothing. I get to barn and barn manager and I were waiting. My son was sick so I timed it so I'm at the barn right around the time she would be there. I texted her my son was sick and to please let me know. She called me rudely and stated "I know your son is sick but if anything changed I would tell you". Had this been any other person I would believe it--but she did not notify when she realized my horse wouldn't be picked up Thursday night as the contract clearly stated. I had to ask for an update. She did not notify me when she actually picked him up like she PROMISED she would. She did not notify me when the route changed from Illinois bound to michigan bound when she promised my horse was being shipped before pony. She did not notify me when she made the decision to board my horse at a barn overnight. I was the one who had to ask her for updates because she was not providing them. So no--she would not have updated me of a change. While this conversation took place I asked how long was left and she said 16 miles from Chicago line. Why is it difficult to be direct with numbers and actual barn address? She then stated demanded a vet and said she would not drop my horse off without a vet. I stated I had someone at the barn to assess my horse upon delivery. She stated she would not hand over my horse without a vet. On a Sunday, it was rough finding a vet to come out in 15 minutes?! Furthermore, the owner should be the one requesting vet. A hauler should not HOLD my animal hostage when I choose otherwise. Finally I told her the vet would come out of her shipping money as that was her request. She then stated she is not paying for anything--she got into an arguement and hung up with two barn managers and owner of barn.
Very unprofessional. I NEVER have left a poor review, nor do I have ill intentions--however, I chose Leigh because her reviews were rest. Out of 22, only three or four were bad. Well the 3-4 bad review were EXACTLY what happened to me. A trend was found: poor communication, refusing to state the ETA, lies, excuses, and change of story. She stated a guy she usually drives with canceled on her before she left Florida. I understand things happen. Of course--had I known that, and had I known my horse would be on a trailer for 36+ hours, boarded at another facility overnight, I would have respectfully turned down her service and looked elsewhere. I want to save the heartache for another anxious horse owner. Do your research besides Facebook alone, read the bad reviews and look for the trends. Look at Yelp and read the review that "is not suggested". Very descriptive stories are under her name--and they are ALL the same story. It's unfortunate. She sounded very sweet and professional--until she had my horse.
Leigh is a terrifying person to deal with. She is very very kind until you book her then she becomes a different person. She is horrible with communication. Honestly, i would pay triple her price with someone else than book with her. I would sell my horse before using her again! She’s that bad. Do not take a risk. Like others have said, she doesn’t communicate anything with you—routes, stops, ETAs (she’ll never ever give you an eta!), updates, etc. it’s always excuse after excuse. Isn’t that a HUGE thing you should communicate with an owner before taking it upon yourself to stay the night that was NOT part of the deal? She went on and on about how she went over X amount of hours as a trucker blah blah which is all fine fair and good, but YOU STILL OUGHT TO CALL AND NOTIFY A CHANGE OF PLANS prior to doing it! Nope. Hours went by after the time my horse was supposed to be HOME before I heard from her. She then said I should be thankful that she did the right thing. Okay sure, maybe it was a nice barn and nice people but that doesn’t negate the fact you didn’t communicate! And she lies beyond belief. Never met someone who lies as much as she does. I can go on and on, but it would be never end. I will lastly say as soon as you post a negative review—she immediately contacts you with threatening text messages, voicemails, the whole works. She’ll sue for Posting a bad review and that’s apparently illegal to share your own experience with others. She then calls all of her friends and contacts in good standing and has them post ten more reviews on top of your bad review or comment on FB bashing the person who posted the bad review. For example, there have been negative posts made and all of a sudden people from the wood works come out of no where and comment how sorely mistaken we are for commenting how poor her service is. Her lies, manipulation, deceit. She knows exactly what she’s doing—and it’s not good.
We were looking to get a horse transported from NH to CA it was spur of the moment. Our trainer found Leigh Griffith, who is supposed to be owner of Valley View we got in contact with her, so nice and friendly at first. She sent us the invoice of $2,500 due since the horse was supposed to be picked up within two days so we paid. Well needless to say Leigh ripped us off for the full amount because she can't use Zelle, Venmo and several other payment options she has you Venmo her son Ryan Seiss who takes the money under Venmo and once you use Venmo you are out of luck.
Leigh has numerous reports against her and her reviews speak for themselves, we were in a hurry and got careless not reading reviews before hand. She also used Trade Winds Transportaion those reviews speak for themselves as well. When you ask for your money she puts you off and off them goes nuts on you and threatens an attorney on you, mind you she's the criminal. On Facebook people are talking of a class action lawsuit she's been doing this weekly lately. Leigh Griffith needs to be stopped and so does her son Ryan Seiss for taking the money. If you hear her name RUN.
