Carrier was contracted to haul Ford F450 from Bluffton, OH - Placerville, CA . They said we were not approved by their factoring at which point I agreed to do quickpay with a 4% fee upon delivery and receipt of legible emailed docs. He agreed. Once loaded they called and said piece was 7 ft longer than they were told. I told them to wait while I called my customer. My customer agreed to pay $200 extra. I called carrier back & they had already left site and said they needed an extra $100/per ft which is way more than standard. When I told them this was too much he said he would need at least $3500 on this load that was originally $3000. This was 3/8/18. When I called on 3/9 to get delivery ETA Mike informed me that he could not give me any ETA until I paid him (before delivery) on this load. This is not the way we do business. I then reminded him that we agreed to QP with 4% on delivery, and also that it was his responsibility to check with his factoring before taking the load. He said he didn't care if payment was not made he would not deliver my customers freight. I was forced to wire him $3500.00 before delivery. I believe the manner in which he handled this is unethical and I believe he had every intention of doing this from the time of loading or he would have waited on site and would have had the option to not take the load. I would like to warn all brokers about these people as they are the kinds of people who should not be in this industry.
