When we were referred to U.S. Land for a home we were excited and couldn't wait to get out of the extended stay Motel that was charging us $900. a month in rent , where everyone was crammed into one room with no kitchen just a microwave and a mini fridge. Before signing anything I was told that after a year of living there we would be made an offer to buy and that our Rent was going to be put towards purchasing the home. so I came up with the deposit and signed the least for the year. when that year was up i asked about the offer to purchase and was told oh you're not renting to own in order to do that we would have to raise your rent and draw up a new lease. Can you say Bait and switch?
So I signed a new lease for another year at $850.
a month. In the first year we had only one problem, which was a leaky kitchen.They finally sent someone out to Half a*s Fix it because now the other side leaks,we have had to come out of pocket for pest control,which U.S. Land says that they won't reimburse us for because we took the property as is. And even though we've called an exterminator for the problem we still have Rats! we have lost $100.'S In groceries because of rats chewing into our breads,fruits, onions and potatoes, they have chewed through walls in the kitchen, under the kitchen sink,cabinets in the kitchen, they've damaged the wall and carpet outside of the master bedroom and at night my son can hear them chewing their way through the floor in his room. some of the outlets in the kitchen DON'T work. we don't store food items in the pantry because they can get to it, Our Electric Bill is constantly HIGH , even though it is set at 72 Degrees the temperature still reads 80 Degrees in the house.the vent in my room barely blows any air out of it. the rats have damaged the vent in the kitchen by the backdoor, the backdoor doesn't close properly so we've attached a latch lock to keep it closed. Upon moving in the former tenants left a full sized mirror in his room, wwhen he moved it there was a huge dent behind it where it looked liked someone had punched the wall.
We can't save any money because this place is bleeding us dry and U.S. Land won't do anything about it! my mother is 80 years young and i can't even get her, her pain meds for the swelling in her joints and knees as well as her hyprtension meds because everything we have gets poured into this place! I'd love to move but i don't have any money saved to do so, especially when on top of rent we have to pay $436. In electric! we missed my sister's wedding in May because we couldn't afford to go! we can't afford a lawn mower because this place takes everything! the front gate doesn't even close properly because there is a tree growing through the fence, the neighbors and ourselves tried cutting and burning this tree out but it's till there, the bottom stair on the backdoor staircase is rottenand broken, the banisters to the front staircase are loose, rats have also damaged the panrty door in the kitchen as well as the carpet in the doorway of my son's room and the wall inside and outside of my bedroom door, the front door doesn't close completely unless you deadbolt it, leaving for work one day i opened the screen door and the little pump thing that controls it's opening and closing fell off of it and hit me in the shoulder, the toilet in m y mother's room although it works it has rust stains in it and the bolts that hold it in place are rusted,it's old and she needs a new one, her stand up shower barely drains and fills up with water when she uses it,and we've had to removed the doorknob from her bathroom door because it locked on her, trapping her in it,her bedroom door fell off the hinges and i had to put it back on and when i did there were holes in her doorframe from, I'm guessing, other tenants have run into the same problem!
with all these problems I ready to say just Keep the deposit just let us out of this Rat Trap so we can at least have some money for my mother's medications and for moving into something better!
