I was getting a very nice job, with some company , It was software engineering job, they gave me assessment tasks on upwork to do to judge my skills. I finished my tasks and submited on upwork, they liked the tasks and we were about to sign contract of about 60 - 80 thousands dollar yearly job, but upwork suspended my account. The reason was falsified identity, i had send them my picture and my id card pictures.

I requested them to restore my account and remove my suspension i sent them my orignal degree, id card, my domiciel certificate and my picutres and asked them to recover my account, but they didnt. Upwork is responsiblle for my job, they will have to provide me job, i ask us gov to provide me justice. thanks

Upwork.com this company is a ripoff. i had a problem with a freelance that stop working because we had some had some disagreement. he refused to continue. so i had to terminate the project. when i talked to customer service and they agreed to give me back my money.

the freelance wanted to challange the ruling now there telling me i need to pay my share of 900.00usd to go to arbutration and you forced to pay the money and there is no refund, even if you win or lose. so do not use this company becasue if you have small 500.00 project it could cost plenty of money if you have any disagreement.

upwork collect 20% of the contract and dont want to pay for the arbutration.

I joined digital marketing in 2015 and as s beginner, I join a professional group of expert to learn and work there. They create my Upwork account in 2015 and I have no access to this account they said they use this to get work.

But after 1-2 month they said that the account is suspended but I don't know the reason. Time was passed and I started working in many local companies.

In 2017 I again open an Upwork account and start working on my profile. In one year I took a 20+ job and earned over 10K USD. Everything going well my account was top-rated.

I leave my job and fully depended on Upwork for 3 years I work with many client and many websites.

In January I was chatting with a customer executive about opening an agency and my debit card was not working they investigate my account and said to give them some time. And the next day they suspend my account because of the mistake of 2015.

I'm shocked everything was finished. I mean how Upwork can suspend my account after 3 years of verification. I verified all document adhaar card, bank details, pan card etc before 3 years.

They said that I broke their policies before 5 years and now we are closing this account too.

I'm totally unsatisfied with their decision I request them to give me one chance but they never took any action. I'm attaching a mail screenshot have look.

They said that they secure freelancer future but they are doing fraud I work around 20k USD on Upwork that profile and they still think that I'm getting paid outside from client. They increase your profile rate if you are earning more still if you have bad reviews.

UPWORK.com should never be used and or trusted because this company practices illegal business practices. I employed a freelancer to do a task and clearly stated what I wanted. The Freelancer accepted the offer, accepted the “start” payment and then requested that I pay in “full.” When asked where the “written product” the freelancer simply changed the process of the contract.

When the issue was presented to UPWORK, they requested a payment of $800 or so bucks to do mediation for a $400 gig. This is what they do to “stop” you from moving forward filing a suit. I see that I am not the only one that had trouble with bully freelancers that hid behind the coattails of Upwork.

Please lets all file a class action lawsuit. Please lets 1st file a Federal Trade Commission complaint and then do a class action to stop their Unethical Business Practices.

1. Do not use Upwork.com look for other venders where you have control over your project.

2. Remember Upwork is to keep ALL money that been paid by the client and they will use a team approach to smash your complaint.

3. Upwork.com loves their low-down dirty cheating freelancers who can’t get a job within any professional company. Just google some of the lawyer’s and paralegals names. These guys have lost their license and certification. In fact these legal people are breaking the law and Upwork is their pathway in taking your money under false pretenses.

4. Upwork does NOT investigate the freelancer’s real location. They say they do BUT they DO NOT. Freelancers send in fake ids and fake paste and copy utilities bills of fake address. My freelancer lives and works out of the country but advertise that he is an American venders. This is really scary. When Upwork was informed of this they accepted “MORE” of the freelancer’s lies of deception. Simply stated, DO NOT CHANCE YOUR MONEY WITH using UPWORK.

5. The only way to teach them a lesson is to File a FTC complaint and File a class action lawsuit. Please file complaint athttps://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1

Chose a freelancer on upwork because of good reviews (although it was only 5 for small jobs a couple of hundred dollars which in retrospect seems suspicious) called Malek Akour from Houston. Wasn't the cheapest freelancer either but because of US location I thought would be better than someone in a different country. Even though it said his English is only conversational, it was much worse than that, it was a software analysis job I needed him and not a legal document where exceptional English is manatory. I told him I have a budget and an ETA of two weeks which he agreed to but said we should do the hourly fee instead of a fixed contract because he couldn't estimate whether it would cost 1500 or 3000 so he said ir would be fairer to pay only for hours he paid.

(By the way Upwork has no way to check whether someone actually does the work they say they do so a freelancer can put in any hours they want). After he put the in the hours each week upwork automatically takes it from your credit card or bank account and pays the freelancer. I was traveling so I wasn't paying lose attention to it but after two weeks he said he needed me to get him a server, which I did, then he came back and said that's not good because it doesn't have windows so he made get another one which had windows for extra of course in the meantime 3 days went by just with that.

He wasn't finished after the 3rd week and said he went on vacation which he never mentioned beforehand. Towards the 4th week he said he said he completed it but it was completely wrong and not what we discussed so afterwards he supossedly fixed it to something better but charged for the fix, which he screwed up. Upwork kept taking money from my credit card even for the fictious work so I block my credit card so upwork put the contract on hold. Seeing that the contract was on hold he took down my data from the server so I couldn't test anything or check if he eventually fixed it.

After a conversation with support (of which I have all the transcript) the agent basically said that Upwork can only mediate and the only way to get money back from a freelancer is if they want to return money. So, upwork is basically a messaging app with no guarantee. SInce the guy obviously scammed me I didn't think he would retrun the money I filed a complaint with my credit card company which started the process of reversing the funds from upwork and eventually from him although he still had 1300 paid to him from my payapl account that he would still have. After complsining to my bank upwork said they won't do anything, not even talk to freelancer, and requested id and a bank statement from me, even though I was the one who made a complaint against freelancer.

After sending all they asked for a day or two later they suspeneded my accoount without explanation and basically otold me to go to hell and I shouldn't contact them anymore because on their part this case is closed. In the meantime the freelancer was telling me to pay him in bitcoin, which I don't even know what it is, the full amount he overcharged so he can put back my data and access to my server. I repored this to support because it is a blatant violation of their terms and I was told that support can't do anything with me anymore because since the contact was put on hold upper management has been directly dealing with my case .

The freelancer still has 1300 from me and upwork permanently suspened my account and the freelancer is still working even though he balckmailed me and violated tupwork's terms. As a 70 year old person and my attempt to be open totechnology has really beeen a disappointment and even though there are many other such forums it really makes me doubt this internet world. I will also speak to the Minessota better business bureau to warm them about upwork and file a dispute with paypal about the $1300 but I don't expect much.

Summary:

Got overcharged by a scammer who didn't abide by our agreement and didn't finish the job

Disputed this with upwork who put contract on hold so Malek Akour removed access our data and access to our server

Customer support said they can only get money back from freelancer if they want to give it back

Filed complaint with credit card company who started to reverse payment

Upwork senior management permanently suspended my account and told me not to contact them about this anymore

Freelancer blackmailed me saying he will only put back back my data he I pay him full in BTC off site

Reported him to upwork because this also violates their terms besides being illegal but freelancer is still offering services on upwork

They still have 1300 from me which i don't know if I will ever get back

Stay away from Upwork there have to be alternatives there.

I hired Upwork and John Clendinen to do some website development. John is lacking in his communication skills as everything has to be in a email when sometimes its better to talk on the phone. This leads to miss communication and not understanding what needed to be done.

He was in such a hurry to get ride of me that he closed the project and billed me leaving the project not finished. So I have had to hire another freelancer to complete the project.

I will never hire John or Upwork ever again.... As I should have check here first before hiring upwork. There are many bad reviews here.

I hired a freelance web developer through their site, to work on my website. I gave him very specific tasks. He said he could do them. I would pay him $15 an hour and it would take approximately 25 hours to complete.

Except it actually took him 50 hours and some of the tasks I asked for were never completed because the web developer was unable to do it. So he lied to me about his level of skills but also had he told me sooner I would have cancelled the contract and not have wasted my time and delayed my project. But no he didn't tell me he couldn't do it he did a botched job and has left me with a shitty looking website that I now have to pay someone else to fix.

I requested a refund, not for all the money, but for the tasks he couldn't complete and that I will now have to find and pay someone else to do. He rejected my refund, so I escalated the situation to Upwork.

They have also rejected my dispute because their policy is that I pay for the time that is spent on the tasks. They have a program that records screenshots of the freelancer's computer while he works and logs hours. Now I am arguing this is a massively flawed system because I have a wrongly sent message to me from the freelancer telling me he has completed work on a certain website. Only he is talking about a different website and has sent me a message meant for a different client. But at the same time, he is sending this message saying he has completed work on a different website he has still been logging hours on their program that he has been working on my website. So which one is it? who's website has he been working on?

But also they allowed this freelancer to lie about his skills, do they even test these people before they allow them to advertise on their site? Had this chap been honest and said this is above my skill set we wouldn't be in the problem, but no he got greedy and upwork allow him to charge people for hours of work that isn't finished and that he probably knew from the start he couldn't finish.

And then just to top it all off, I pointed out to them that on their website it says "upwork payment protection policy, only pay for a job well done" and then within a couple of hours they speedily changed it to say 'Upwork payment protection policy, only pay for the work you authorise'

This company is just a shoddy mess with crap customer service that has no respect for their customers.

Think very carefully before heading down a road with Upwork.. they are shockingly arbitrary and void of integrity.

Since 2008 I have been an active member (as both a client and a freelancer) of Elance and then Upwork (when my account was moved over)

As a client, I have continued to hire freelancers over that period, the most recent being in August this year. I have received 5 star reviews on all of the projects I have been involved with

As a freelancer, I have chosen not to work for since my account was moved to upwork, but on Elance I performed many projects. Of those employers who left reviews all were very positive and almost all were 5 stars - but the work history has now mysteriously disappeared from upwork despite being there yesterday

A few days ago I decided I would try working as a freelancer again. I applied for several projects in a day. Hours later my account was suspended without explanation.

After banging my head against the wall with support I was eventually told that I was not qualified to be applying for these jobs because the number of jobs that I was applying for was too great given my work history - exactly how this is related to my qualifications for the job I have no idea!

When I appealed I was then asked to provide evidence of my qualifications. I sent them evidence of my three applicable degrees which were received from top ranked universities in Australia. Shortly after I was simply sent an email stating that the review had been completed and my account was permenantly closed!

I have an established work history with freelancers - my CLIENT account is also suspended - and now I am unable to engage them again? The ENTIRE purpose of upwork is to provide a fair and safe marketplace. After a business starts hiring people on upwork they are counting on them to maiintain that fairness. Our company has invested in developing relationships and a shared body of knowledge with our freelancers. Suddenly, and only because I decided to start applying for jobs on a single day, I find myself permenantly banned? How??

After repeatedly asking them to refer me to the section of their terms and conditions which I have supposedly violated, I have received no response. Upwork seems to have a grossly warped sense of what it means to have commercial integrity.. VERY disappointed. Upwork.com

I can't understand that why upwork CEO Stephane Kasriel is suspending freelancer's accounts for no reasons? A lot of posts, comments, petitions etc. can be find regarding this. They know that freelancer's are the backbone of their company and they're suspending their accounts for no reason? I can't able to understand this? I don't know what's his motto or their team's?

But, i don't think that this man is the right person who can manage this company where he can't able to understand that what he's doing? Even, he is doing this worldwide and a lot of freelancers are facing this issue who are even depends on this.

I just want to aware the people that this man is a fraud or don't know what? But, this man is doing the very bad thing. Every user should aware of it.

Upwork decided to permanently block our account, after we hired freelancers for different jobs and filed credit card information, for no reason at all. Freelancers already started working on our jobs and were left unable to further contact us. The customer service refuses to discuss the reason for the block. They just keep answering emails with standard text. Due to this we lost time and money. further more, Upwork can read all the private messages you exchange with freelancers, so forget about privacy! Avoid at all costs upwork.com, there are plenty of good alternatives for hiring freelancers.

UPWORK ripped me off by overcharging on a fixed contract by $1263 this was after we agreed on a rate of $150

We were very excited to assemble a freelance digital support team for our company. I (CEO) requested our marketing manager to contract with Upwork for this purpose. We posted a job spec and on the 29th March 2017 contracted with a designer by the name of Lisa Saliture who agreed in writing to a FIXED fee of $ 150 for following services one rendered.

Website banner $27.5, Blog design $27.5, Cover page Facebook $27.5, 2 social media posts $13.75 each, Total agreed amount was $150 USD.

What actually transpired was that she/ Upwork snatched $1263 from our account over the following transactions (converted from South African Rand so may not be exact) 03 April 2017, R4190,36 (314 USD), 10 April 2017, R5594,9 (420, 66 USD), 17 April 2017, R2828,7 (212,68 USD), 19 April 2017, R4183,55 (314,55 USD), 19 April 2017, R4183,55(314,55 USD), 20 April 2017, - 4134,42 (310,85 USD) This is a credit.

Lisa maintains that she worked on the jobs for more hours than was agreed to and thus charged more. We maintain the following:-

The agreement with her was for a fixed contract amount of $150 no more and no less.

Once we reaslied these transactions were taking place we immediately cancelled the credit card and today saw on the account another $400 that was attempted to be billed to the account however unsuccessfully due to the card not being active.

We tried to communicate the issue with their support @ [email protected] with Mohammad and I personally was plainly ignored leaving me no alternative but to name and shame in order to get this hopefully resolved.

Upwork has a web interface that is done in confusing layout, and its display of Payment and Freelancer rating, both together. This causes user to miss seeing on the payment detail. I have made complaint to them that their display can lead to unnecessary and unintentional payment. Also I clicked on"end contract" with freelancer, however how their website works is that in does not auto-cease any payment already offerd. This again can cause risk to customers for release of money. Once customers "End contract", no money should be put on table, But Upwork interface still has this money pending to be paid to Freelancer. This is total risk to users. They refuse to acknowledge that their website layout will cause big harm in releasing payments.

Also i made complaint to customer service, which they conveniently reply as they like (Not because they are busy). When i reply them, and highlighted that their display is misleading, they conveniently stopped reply, after the previous slew of replies which continues to blame me for my own release, and claims their interface display is not wrong at all.

They claim i releasaed the money, but such website provider have been known to take on their own hands to release payment (check out Freelancer.com, complaints of them making reverse payments, and releasing payments from customer credit card without customer permission). I maintain i did not release the money. And even if i did accidently, their interface display of confusion surely causes that. And Upwork should refund my money, which they REFUSE REFUND.

So i got mad that my money was released for nothing, from my own clicking of button (button which does not even says "payment", rather something like "submit"). I did throw them bad words and scold, after i tried reasoning with them, and they continue reject any responsibility.

I will not get a refund from Upwork, but do AVOID UPWORK, for sake of future buyers.
