Brian Smith, the President of University Prospects contacted me (professional videographer) a few years ago (2016?) to film several soccer games at a major tournament here in Las Vegas, Nevada. His company helps attain sports scholarships for young athletes by hiring videographers to film events around the county to film these young people in compeitive action. They then take the raw video footage and edit it to make demo reels to show to colleges and universities to help promote their clients children to help get them scholarships, thus saving the parents a lot of education expenses.
I filmed at least 6 games for University Prospects over a three-day period. I also came out of pocket to purchase the recording media. I additionally paid over $100 dollars (at least) to ship the materials to his corporate office in Vaughan, Ontario, a suburb of Toronto.
After he had plenty of time to revceive the materials, I never did receive any compensation for my work. Nothing. I believe each game was appx $125 US. Game filming charges, media costs, shipping costs approached $1,000 US. I finally was able to contact Brian Smith (months later) and he told me he had some cash flow and personal issues which made it diffiult to pay me but he ASSURED me that he was making me get paid a priority. He asked me if we could set up a repayment plan. Since at this point I had nothing to lose, I agreed. He actually did make one payment to me with a balance of about $800 remaining. I never received any more monies from Brian Smith or University Prospects.
I have tried to call or email him many, many times since then and he just completely ignores my communiation attempts. I attempted to file a Canadian Small Claim Court charge against him, which cost me more money. The difficulty of trying to do this internationally proved to be too difficult and to this day, I am owed around $900 by University Prospects.
I see that he has continued to thrive in his business online and seems to be doing quite well if you look at his web page and the YouTube Videos of many of his video engagements. It does not seem right or fair that University Prospects / Brian Smith is enable to brush me off like a fly and ignore all my attempts to be compensated for my work and expenses. To this date there has been NO PRICE TO PAY for him at all.
While I am not really expecting any monies from Brian Smith at this time, I do feel that the word should be spread that he is NOT an honest broker and essentially has little or no integrity and is really a pathetic human being. I feel that any family that considers doing business with University Prospects, with the hope of getting a sports scholarship for thieir child should serious reconsider before dealing with this unscruplulous man and his company. He really needs to become a man and pay his debts which he seem incapable of or just not interested in doing.
Brian Smith, you just plain SUCK and so does your company, University Prospects!!!
