I was looking for a card that would provide rewards for my construction company. I received offer from Universal Premium that they provided a card specifically designed for construction companies. I really wish that I had done some web searches before I signed up. They sent me five cards and set up an account.
When making gas purchases you are expected to enter code numbers and enter mileage which is a complete pain. I tried using the card for some other purchases and the card was rejected. I did manage to make one business card purchase and two gas purchases. I received a statement which indicated that I was already late for my payment on my first purchase.
I called them and asked what was going on with this. I was advised that the only way to avoid late fees was to post money to the account or immediately go online after every purchase and make an online payment. At this point I realized that this card was only designed to generate late fees. I told customer service to close my account and I was destroying the cards.
I had the two other charges and I immediately sent a check for them, in addition to the payment I had already made a week earlier for the first purchase. After this I began to receive a monthly statement showing that I owed late fees and interest on late fees. It is almost a year later and I still receive these notices and I am now up to nearly $250.00 that they say I owe them for my three charges which totaled a little over $100.00.
I sent them proofs of all the payments that I had made, on time, which they ignored. I fully expect that I will soon start getting harassment from a collection agency threatening to destroy my credit if I don't pay for this extortion. Is there any agency that I can report to alert authorities so that this rip off company can be shut down?
