Hyuandi Sonata 2005 vehicle and Universal Auto Plaza

My mother and I had gone to Universal Auto Plaza as we were interested in a car which they said was there. We took a taxi to get there, but that car was not there. Then we were directed to a bunch of different cars. Every single car that we test drove, was in need of numerous repairs. The salesman said that if we picked a car we liked, we could come back with it another day to get the repairs done. If that wasn't the case, then we wouldn't have gotten a car as they all were broken. Fast forward to us getting a car and so far we had paid $2,198.12. Allow me to start telling you about how unprofessional they are, how they are con-artists, and why I am here writing this today.

The odometer disclosure statement reads, "exempt". Okay, whatever. They decided to put exempt since it's more than 10 years old. The dealership's salesman showed us the car promoting the low mileage of 78k. My mom asked why the disclosure read "exempt". He said that it was fine and correct. Then, she did some research and found that the car's information on FLDMV read over 231k on the last title completed.

We received a written statement to "check the brakes". We didn't ask for a written statement saying "check the brakes"... We asked for one saying that they would REPAIR the things that needed REPAIRED!

My mom purchased the car on 7/18, with an agreement to return on monday. 7/20, for new brakes and a.c. charge. On monday, 7/20, we returned to talk to the salesman. My mom told him our concerns, which were: oil leaking all around the engine, the driver's window not fuctioning properly, smoke coming out from the hood, the brakes vibrating, and the a.c. more than likely needed a repair and not just charged. She asked to get a refund because it was just getting to be a bigger problem than we bargained for. Unless, if they could do diognostics AND fix the problems. They claimed that they did diognostics, and that the engine problem to be a valve cover, the window regulater needed replaced, new front brakes, and a compressor for the a.c. He said parts and service would be free and they would order from Hyuandi.

7/25, my mom called. The salesman said the parts were in, but the valve cover size was wrong, so they re-ordered. 7/28, she called to see if we could bring the car for service on everything else and he said that the part shipped on 7/28, so wait and get it all done so that we won't have to see eachother again.

8/1, we went to pay 1st of 6 installment payments and determine when work would be done and get it in writing. After waiting an hour, the owner, Troy, said the valve cover was in but he'd have to order everything else on monday and to bring it in on wednesday at 10 a.m. and that the work would be completed in 3 hours.

She made her payment, asked for it in writing, and Troy signed off on the order for service and would include the parts in service order on wednesday for my records.

On wednesday, 8/5, we dropped the car off at 10 a.m. and gave the keys to Troy. He said the salesman would call her when ready. She called, hours later, at 3 p.m. and the salesman said he would check on it. He said that the mechanics wouldn't tell him anything so my mom said she would wait on hold. While waiting on hold, the call was disconnected. She called back and asked if she could speak to the owner, Troy. He said she couldn't because he wasn't in and didn't know when he would return. He said she would have to talk to Keenan anyways because that's his boss. Keenan was to her back when he was available.

2 hours later, no call from Keenan, my mom called again. She was disconnected again. SHe called right back and Keenan said, "Ma'm, it's not ready. There's trouble ith the oil pan. It'll be ready in the morning", and hung up on her.

The car was sold to my mom for her offer of $200 less than their asking price, which they said, REPEATEDLY, included TAX, TITLE, and TAG. However, she was told, after signing papers, that the price did not include the TAG or TITLE.

8/6, we took the bus to pick up the car at 2:30. Troy, the owner, greated us with the keys and said mostly everything was done but we'd have to come back monday to have the work complete. My mom asked Troy if she could speak to him about the car as he told her that he didn't know where the oil was coming from. She told him that she found the mileage to be over 231,000 miles and he said they don't use carfax reports although she told him that she heard a salesman use carfax reports just saturday.

My mom asked for a refund again due no one calling with updates, etc. He said there was too much paperwork involved in all that and that she signed papers final sale, etc. He said he'd make her an offer to do the work, as much as possible, while we wait. She said that it was nonsence so he offered to go under the car himself, then he walked away and made a call. When he was done with the call, my mom asked him if we all could go back and look at the car together. He told us to go ahead.

There was a young man by the car and asked my mom what was wrong with the car and what did we want him to fix. The young man said that the oil was changed before it was sold to us, but other than that he had no idea. Earlier when we arrived, Troy had told my mom that the lines for a.c. were changed and brakes were changed. He said he knew nothing about the window regulator.

Then Troy came back there, and my mom told him that the young man did not know what he was to do. Troy said to him, "what are you doing with the oil leak?". He replied that he was just looking at it because he didn't know what he was supposed to do.

In the end, my mom told Troy that the car's odometer didn't read anywhere close to what they were reading on the FLDMV and the work on the car wasn't even started, so we didnt want the car or trust any word, written or spoken.

We left with the car and told him that we would file a complaint. The brakes are bad, the a.c. isn't working, engine leaking and smoking, and window no functioning.

In our complaint, we stated that we wanted a full refund and do not want to pay any more money to them or deal with them at all.

Our investigation is ongoing and it involves the odometer tampering. My mom didn't make anymore payments on it, and the car had been towed. We didn't want it anways, but it looks bad on my mom's credit and she also really needs her money back as we just moved to Orlando and really need a car!!!!

Furthermore, Troy was complaining to us about other customers and called them thugs. The paper clerk Nathan, during signing papers was talking excessively about personal issues and told my mom that he knew my sister was pregnant because of her breasts!?!?!?!? OK......
