Both on the Chicago and Ft. Lauderdale/Florida, and Boca Raton, Louisiana, Better Business Bureau websites, this company has an F rating and is not a BBB certified business. My reasons for filing a complaint are as follow: United Movers Group had scheduled to pick up my furniture May 26-27, 2017, in Nashville for transport to Orlando, Florida. On that Friday afternoon, Jeremy, my dispatcher, did not call or return my calls about being a no show and rescheduling. When I called Walter, director of operations or customer service manager, did listen to me and helped get my furniture rescheduled for pick-up on the following Monday. The two packers were absolutely wonderful, and I felt hopeful that my furniture would be in great shape. A dispatcher, not Jeremy, called and asked me when I wanted delivery. Eric Scott, the sales rep, had told me delivery was between 2-14 days, so I asked for Wednesday, May 31st. The dispatcher said, "You got it!"
My furniture was then, for some inexplicable reason, shipped to a warehouse in Indiana, and Jeremy, my dispatcher, did not return calls. However, there was a seven-and-a-half-week delay until July 21st when I finally received my furniture, minus a tv and small table and with a broken marble top for a small table. Had a crew chief not taken mercy on me at the warehouse and saw when my furniture had arrived and chose to take my order, I would probably still not have it. In fact, Jeremy wanted him to take a smaller order to Florida that arrived much later than mine. Several times dispatchers called with false dates of delivery as I would then verify with a helpful soul who told me my furniture was in the warehouse and had not been loaded on the truck. July 19th, Daniel, another dispatcher, called but left no voicemail. When I called him back, he said he had called by mistake. So technically perhaps, he had notified me I would be receiving my things, but it was not until the next day that the crew chief called and alerted me to a real delivery.
Over those long weeks, I called and called asking for information, but only two people there would tell me the truth. One even told me, "This always happens to the nicest people." For seven and a half weeks, I lived with a dinette set the previous owner had left and a bed I had to buy and a lamp. It was a scary time as I wondered if the pieces left me by my great-grandmother, grandmother and father, and parents had left me and that I had grown up with. Once I unpacked, I found broken crystal goblets and antique dinner plates that had survived intact during approximately 20 other moves in the past 75 years. I took pictures and also submitted a claim for the broken marble top, missing table, and missing 32-inch flat screen, but no one ever contacted me. In fact, the company sent a form letter thanking me for my business as if they had never mistreated me.
This was an absolute nightmare for a recently retired teacher who spent $13,000 of my retirement nest egg for a two-bedroom apartment move because of a stair fee of $6,000. I will have to substitute for extra income to be sure I can survive on a fixed income. I have voicemails of false promises and also pictures of broken furniture and also pictures of a bare apartment that I had to live in for so long. I submitted a claim for a broken marble-topped table and missing 32" flatscreen, but heard nothing from the company. I have called the crew chief and his manager several times and have never heard about the missing television or missing table. I have applied for part-time jobs to help make up for the savings I had to use to get my furniture. I would not recommend this company in spite of the kind/truthful souls who work there. There are not enough of them, alas. Service cost: $13,000 Order ID: $7,000
I hired United Movers Group to pack my belongings on June 25th and deliver on June 26th. I still haven't received my belongings. They specifically insisted that 'they' would be moving me, not a third party and when they showed-up hours late with stuff from other moves on the truck, they started screaming that it was my fault; I didn't pay for an "exclusive move" and I didn't pay $1500 extra for "expidited shipping". I caught them off guard when I said "OK I'll pay the extra $1500"; he was silent for a moment then suddenly said "We don't do next day delivery" and told me to "take it or leave it". I checked the BBB before hiring them and there was NOTHING, but now there are a lot of complaints about the same issueses with all three companies. I didn't research Reliable Moving & Transportation or Reliable Moving because I wasn't expecting them. I've submitted complaints to the BBB and FMCSA; they haven't responded to the BBB at all and although the movers contacted me claiming it was to schedule a delivery, they demanded $10,000 (estimated $3900.00 w/photos) and they didn't show anyway. These people took everything I own and have the nerve to insist it's all my fault!? They have two addresses; one in Illinois and the other is Florida. What they're doing is illegal, not just stealing; charging substantially more, not providing information about claims and the location of your belongings, charging for new packing supplies but using pre-used boxes, not providing weight for pricing, etc. is illegal! Contact the FMCSA immediately and get an attorney!
I cannot stress enough to upcoming moving consumers to "stay away from the moving company known as United Movers Group Inc!" They are still supposedly transporting my household goods 2+ weeks after pickup. They left my $1400 bed back in my old house. They left an entire room of labeled and numbered boxes (their labels!) back at my old house in another state! And they charged me for all of that stuff on my inventory! Unfortunately I was too busy outside making sure they loaded the truck correctly because they were leaving huge spaces empty, that I didn't know they had left all that stuff behind until they were gone! Then, they tripled my cost from $3200 to almost $10k, stating I had much more than planned! When I challenged them on the space, they said they made a mistake in the calculations and added more space for me on the truck. I had to borrow $3700 more to just get them to take my stuff! Then they told me that the truck they loaded would be going directly to my new home in another state, and would not be transferred to a Semi. They lied!
On the date my items were due, I called to find out where they were and was informed that they didn't know where they were but they knew they were on a Semi with other people's moves. I have made over 50 calls to this fraudulent company and either they never answer the phone, answer promising to get my info, or promise to call me right back with an update. Nobody has told me yet when my stuff will get here, where it is, or whether they will adjust my bill for the items left behind. I have filed complaints with the DOT, the BBB, and the Attorney General for their home state. When I finally got ahold of somebody, he informed me that I needed to change my attitude while talking to him or he would hang up on me. He then quoted "the Contract," stating that if I had read it, I would know that they can take 3 weeks, or 21 business days, to deliver my stuff. I reminded him that the supervisor on pickup day told me they would come straight to my new home. He said he didn't know why he told me that. I told him that the movers left behind a full room of boxes plus my bed and I was extremely upset that I got charged for those items. He told me he didn't know anything about that and I should wait until delivery to see what was delivered! He kept threatening to hang up and "do nothing for" me if I continued to be angry and "take it out on him." How does one remain calm with this kind of fraud, terrible customer service, inflated unreasonable prices, and the kidnapping literally of ones "life?!" And every Rep I've managed to get to answer the phone has told me he or she "does not care" if I go to the BBB, the DOT, or the Attorney General, or the media for that matter! They say they are NOT concerned about ANY of those entities. And they tell me basically to shut up, wait for my stuff and pay their bill!
I'm so upset and frustrated by this company! This has been one of the most horrible situations I have ever been in. And United Movers Group Inc has made it abundantly clear that they don't care who I contact because they are not concerned about anything or anyone! I want to contact the media and scream this from the mountaintops! If you cherish your household and personal stuff, and don't want to be financially drained, then stay away from United Movers Group Inc! They will hijack your items, lie to you about how much space you're using, overcharge you by 3x the initial quote, take their time delivering to you, keep you in suspense about when you'll get your stuff, be rude on the phone or never answer you at all, threaten you with holding your stuff in storage if you don't pay their exaggerated fees, flip you off like you're a nobody and literally laughingly dare you to turn them in! And finally, they will charge you for whole rooms of items they left behind but included on the truck inventory!
I wish someone could please tell me who I can complain to about this company that believes it is almighty and untouchable? They have no business even operating with a DOT number! They are rude, uncaring crooks! And If you read anything positive about them, I would strongly urge you to question its authenticity! Can anyone help?
I moved from Indiana to Naples Florida and had the worse customer service experience with this company. First of all the initial quote, by Frank was $1800 with 2 months of storage. However, that was not the amount that was demanded at the time of the move. The move cost went from $1800 to over $5000 with 2 months of storage. The agreement was to store my stuff for 2 months in Indianapolis then deliver the load to my new home. Unfortunately with only 1 week to leave my sold home I had to agree to the new amount. They had me Shanghaied!
At this point I had given United Movers $2900. Well...9 days later I received a call at work stated my stuff was in Naples and they could deliver it that day. I stated that was the agreement. They stated that that was not part of their paperwork. I stated it was on mine. It was also told to me that Frank had "screwed up another order" and that he was no longer employed by United Movers. Then through a series of phone calls "David" stated he would get it stored. Then no other phone call was received to state where my stuff was at. They leave at 5Pm and when I got out of work no one could tell me where my stuff was at This was already a nerve racking day as it was also the day I closed on sold home. It was not until the next day when I called "David" and found out my stuff was in Fort Lauderdale. Again my stuff was Shanghaied!
Unfortunately, My job took an extra 3 weeks to complete which I was willing to pay reasonable storage fees. I called United Movers the day I was done with my job and asked for delivery of my stuff. It was stated at that time that they would get back to me to see when a driver was available. 3 weeks later after a few unanswered messages and unable to get through to someone, I received a call about when I would like my stuff. I stated Now", then they hit me with the bill...0VER $4100 which included a "re-delivery fee" - $500, plus $1000 for storage. I talked to the supervisor "Walter" who was basically unwilling to hear me that I didn't want to pay the $500 re-delivery fee, because this was the first time I was arranging a delivery. He kept clicking off the phone as if to Mute me. It was very rude! He basically told me I needed o have cash or a certified check when the delivery occurs. A personal check was perfectly fine on the other 2 occasions that United Movers received funds from me. Either "pay or you don't get your stuff"...Period! Shanghaied Again!
I was not given a day or time when My stuff would be delivered. Again "we will call you back"... I asked for them to call me by the end of the day and it is almost 4pm now... I am still waiting. United Movers has very poor telephone customer services, as well as a their employees would greatly benefit in personal interaction training.

BAIT and SWITCH
They advised they were an owner/operator of a fleet of moving vans which they use exclusively to serve their customer base, when in fact they are a broker using a sales and customer service boiler room which apparently represents multiple moving group brokers, using multiple phone numbers including (877) 754-3574.
United removed money from my bank account, never provided a contract, and didn't show up after scheduling several pick ups.
