While visiting the Utah Boat Show in SLC this year (2018) I bought a custom swim deck from A company that makes them custom fit for my boat. Before I bought the swim deck I visited the Peterson Marine display and talked to Mike the shop manager. I told Mike that I was going to buy a swim deck with a light kit on it and I would like to know how much it would cost to have it shipped to them and have them install it. Mike gave me his businiess card and wrote" $600.00 to install deck " and it normally takes about 4 hours to install. I felt I had a good deal so I took th card to the swim deck people and showed them the card. I was told that 600.00 was what it usually cost to install a deck. So, I bought one and had it shipped to Petersons Marine.
When I arrived to pick up my boat after the deck was installed I was presented with a $991.97 bill. When I asked Mike if he remembered me talking to him at the boat show he said yes. I said what about the written quote he had given me? He said that was just for the install of the deck, not hooking up the lights. Just to be clear, the lights came installed on the deck and the only thing Petersons had to do was run the provided wire to a switch on the dash. There was alerady an aux switch on the dash that was not being used that they used. Mike became a total jerk and said that the bill was 991.97 like it or not.
The bill was paid. If a person representing a company gives a written quote then that company should honor that quote. Espically when the person giving that quote is a manager and the one who went back on his word. Extreamly bad business, integrity and moral compass! As a customer I feel I was just ripped off $400.00 that I really dont have to through away!!!!
