We have a home warranty with American Home Shield and in May 2019 called as our second story would not cool. Our warranty company contracted our service call with United Air Temp. When their technician came out he did a cursory check of the ac unit outside, and when he went into the attic he went about two to three feet in came back and said the fan on your unit is too small to push air through your entire home.
He saod they would check for a warranty and order the new fan and come out amd replace it as part of the service call. He then told us our unit was low on freon and proceeded to refill the coolant in the unit (about 5 to 6 pounds). The work got done and our home was cooling so we were happy...until March of 2020 when the exact same issue occurred again. Again we call American Home Shield and again the contracted with United Air Temp and another technician came out.
This technician did a cursory look came in and went to the attic about 2 to 3 feet and then announced that the issue was outside. There was a leak at the outside unit and the coolant was low, again. He said he would fix the leak and then refilled the coolant with another 4 pounds of freon. So imagine our surprise when just over 3 and a half months or so the issie is back! We called an outside company and paid a little over a hundred dollars and we were informed that we had rust, condensation, an oil leak and a coolant leak in our attic.
Based on this technician it was 1400 dollars in repairs plus freon. I called United Air Temp and Ken told me that they are only required to get the service up and running that they don't guarantee how long it will last. That his technicians did their jobs and because we didn't call within 60 days it's not their problem.
I engaged someone with more than 40 years experience and they agreed with the diagnosis of the outside technician. We called American Home Shield and they sent a different contractor out and even this person agreed with the outside technician and the outside source with over 40 years experience. The technician that came out today said we have leaks throughout our attic lines...he also said there is no excuse for this to be overlooked.
As of this afternoon Ken basically said they fulfilled their end of the contract with American Home Shield and they are not going to fix what their technicians failed to diagnosis and fix when they came out.
Did I also mention that my husband is a disabled veteran and they could care less that their failure to properly inspect and repair all aspects of our ac issues impact his quality of life!
This is what was found by the outside technician when he came out.
This company (United Air Temp) is the most dishonest company I have ever dealt with in my life. It took them several weeks to complete the installation of my heating furnace and the air-conditioning units. First of all, the supposedly new furnace failed immediately after installation. And instead of replacing the unit, they decided to replace the parts and, for several weeks, they could not get the system to work. I did not have heat in my house for more than one week and had to take my family to a hotel room, at my own expense, to escape the bitter winter cold.
When I expressed my frustrations with the company and threatened to cancel the contract, the branch manager promised to offer me a free whole house humidifier along with an additional two years full warranty. But at the end of the day, he didn't keep any of these promises. The only thing I have kept getting from the company's branch manager are lies and more lies. This company is fraud. Even their finance process was fraud. The branch manager promised me a zero percent financing but, when I talked to the bank, I realized that the zero percent wasn't true after all.
