Willful Destruction of Personal Property and theft of Personal Property Unique Van lines was contracted to Transport from NC to UT Interstate Movers brokered and contracted Unique Van Lines to carry out transport of household goods from North Carolina to Utah. $2254.50 was paid directly to Interstate Movers for brokerage with an additional $1148.21 paid to Unique Vanlines upon pickup in April 14, 2018. All household goods were packed to acceptable standards upon departure from the residence and witnessed by my spouse and mother-law. The households goods were then Transported to Miami without prior notification to the property owners and stored for for a period of 5 days, again without notification or authorization. This in itself makes no sense as the move to be conducted was from NC to UT, with Miami being clearly out of the way.
Property owners (myself) were then notified that the transport vehicle would depart on April 19th with one planned stop in Atlanta.
The driver stated he would contact me of delivery 24 hours in advance of arrival in UT. I was contacted as promised and transport truck arrived at 11:45 April, 26, 2018. Upon arrival, I was required pay the balance of $1741.21 in cash before the driver and his friend "assistant" proceeded to unload the truck, but visibly could not differentiate one set of household goods from another home owners as nothing had been clearly divided or separated. They were also recklessly unloading other property from the truck while trying to locate mine. As they unloaded the truck, I personally looked inside the truck and saw that no items had been stacked or organized neatly and all the boxes inside and delivered to me sustained significant damage. Significant damage was sustained to 3 of 4 dining room chairs, the 4th chair was "missing". The dining room table glass top was completely destroyed.
A stainless steel headboard and footboard for a bed were dented, bent and damaged beyond repair, two barstools were missing, a Gibson Les Paul was missing, a Blueridge Acoustic guitar was missing, and a new and sealed in box 55" UHDTV was found to have been removed and replaced with a smaller, older and used LCD TV, then closed back up. The total value of property damaged is $1980 for the dining room set and $800 for the destroyed Bed frame. The value of the property lost, missing and due to deliberate repacking of 55" TV believed to be stolen is as follows: $2000 for 2016 Gibson Les Paul Standard Faded, $1099 for Blueridge Acoustic Guitar Model# BR-160CE, $129 each for each Barstool and an artwork print valued at $229. I have photographs and video of the property and it's condition before it was loaded and it's condition upon its arrival.
I contacted the owner of Unique Vanlines, Asi who repeatedly assures me that he is "getting to the bottom of this" and will "resolve it", but is more intent on passing the blame on to employees he contracted. He has even admitted and verified the items missing were observed by him supposedly being loaded on the vehicle. I have filed a police report with my local Police Department and have also filed a report with the Miami Dade Police Department. I have also contacted the FBI due to the total value of the property stolen and the fact that his has occurred across state lines. I am also contacting the Frderal Motor Carrier Safety Adminsitration and will file a complaint with that agency and intend to hire legal counsel in FL and UT. It has now been 3 days since my property was delivered and the issues at hand have not been resolved. Based on the number of complaints placed against this so called transport company, they should not have a license to operate.
