My takeover bank is US BANK who purachased the assets and customer accounts from Charterone Bank a subdivision of Citizens Bank and part of the holding compaby Royal Bank of Scotland where I was a customer.
After a rocky transition for many CharterOne customers, to add insult to injury US BANCORP did not "grandfather" the accounts they had purchased by maintaining the same conditions as were originally agreed to by the selling Bank with whom my account was opened. This meant that we were extorted into paying exhorbitant fees unless we chose to close our accounts. Normally, most corporations will maintain the original relationships if clients remain.
When I opened a new account sometime after, I was offered sa promotion if I spent over a specific sum of purchase on my US Bank card. When I had met the requirements and decided to convert the offer to credit my account, no one knew about it or could find the promotion. A good indication of a scam on the bank's part.
Recently, my account inadvertently became overdrawn and when I found out I immediately went into a branch to clear the amount with a payment execeeding the overdraft amount. The day after they docked my account $36.00 and when I explained that I had paid the amount in a timely manner, the bank representative advised me that the do not reverse overdrafts unless it was the bank's fault. At the time I paid the overdraft amount my account had a positive balance but afterwards they assessed a $36 charge which took me back into overdraft. Very crafty, wouldn't you think. so now I had two overdraft assessed fees. When I spoke to a desugnated Account Manager , Crystal, in the Denver call center, she told me that there was nothing she could do and the charges would remain.
In light of these experiences, I couldn't honestly encourage anyone to open any type of account with this institution. The slogan " Yes, the future looks brighter with US" and "All of US serving you" are mere substitues for expletives. Their real moniker should be" We saw our opportunities to rip you off and we took them".
For alternatives, I would suggest which has 7 day banking locations as well as excellent online presence. For online banking if you prefer use Discover Bank where one gets paid for every transaction.
