In late march 2022, I first responded to a Maui County, Hawaii Facebook Marketplace listing titled, "$990- Vacant Lot for Your Tiny Home". After some discussion through FB messenger, I discovered the ad was to have your own 40x12 foot tiny home on wheels built by U Build Tiny Homes with a contractor and builder, then lease a lot in Pukalani, HI for the tiny home I would purchase. In such a competitive housing market on Maui, I thought it was a great idea for housing.
After meeting in person with the sales agent/ coordinator, I decided to proceed. I was applied to financing and signed a contract to have said tiny home built within 6 months. There was a lack of communication, professionalism, and disorganization from the beginning of the project. There was never any transparency. It seemed as though the project coordinator had no idea what was happening within her own team and with the project. She never handled herself professionally, as she would cry on the phone with me.
No one from the company would ever respond to email. They only wanted to talk on the telephone so they could conference other team members on the call. I believe they wanted all converstions to be off line and undocumented.
The project coordinator/ sales person would not provide me with the contractor (the person we signed the contract with) of my project or U build owner's phone numbers, initially. It seemed as though a lot of things were being hidden.
As one month went by with no work done, I started to get more suspiscious about the integrity of U Build, contractor, builder, and the sales lady. In May, I received a phone call from the original sales lady and she told me that my loan money of $76,000 was stolen from the builder along with 130K cash and other loan moneys totaling 500K from other tiny home customers.
Her stories changed so many times over the course of 2 weeks it was hard to keep up. She claimed the builder and contractor stole my loan money to build someone else's tiny home since the cash for that house was stolen. Between the contractor, builder, owner, and the sales lady, they all had completely different versions of what transpired and blamed one another for fraudulent activities.
I am now waiting for a cancellation of my loan money that was dispursed totaling $76,000. The whole process from the beginning has been one mess and lie after another.
It was never clear what the sale lady's position was. On one email she sent me, her signature line stated, CEO/ Owner of U Build. When I questioned this, she became very offensive and said I was lying and that I made that up.
Meanwhile it came from her own email. The owner later sent me a message stating that signature line was a "typo." The owner of U Build, Michael Zatorski has his own allegations of fraud in the past (google his name). I unfortually found this out too late.
Run from this company and anyone who works with them.
