We have been going to the Outer Banks in North Carolina for 28 years. This would have been our 29th year. Other than weather, never an issue or problem. We booked a week's stay through Twiddy & Company for an ocean front home. Monies due were paid in a timely manner. We were notified on Monday, August 31st, 6 days before our vacationn was to start that there had been some sort of mix up and that the owner had scheduled maintenance at the house we were to rent for our week and the following week.
Of course that story is a complete and utter lie. No one would schedule maintenance on a rental in season and give up $6,900.00 for 2 weeks rentals. This does not include fees and taxes on top of the rental cost. We were packed, vacation time had been sceduled at work, and we were ready to go. The agent, Christi, at Twiddy seemed unconcerned that our vacation was ruined. We were offered alternative locations 45 minutes north of where we had booked, or inland, away from the ocean.
The rental agreement is written in such a manner that we have no recourse other that to get our deposit back or settle for something much less that we booked originally.
It is my guess that the owner decided they wanted to use the home for a few weeks and concocted this unbelievable excuse. I discussed this with my attorney and he said the agreement is loaded against the renter.
