Ten days ago my ignition would not turn off -- just 10 months after Tustin Buick replaced the mechanism under warranty recall. I took my vehicle in and after 6 hours of inspecting I received a call advising me that it would cost $560 to repair. I inquired about the warranty on the recall work and I was told that the warranty for said work was 12 months or 12,000 miles and that I was out of warranty. I asked for an explanation -- I was told that I had driven 30,000 miles and I was out of warranty. However, I inspected other service records and learned that Tustin Buick entered the WRONG odometer information. In fact, my regular mechanic entered 147,000 miles in April 2015 yet somehow Tustin Buick figured I drove backwards 22,000 miles in just one month to be at 125,000 in May 2015 (Tustin Buick's records).
Well, my service advisor told me that he spoke to his manager and they graciously decided to do the work for free. Unfortunately my vehicle wasn't done correctly. The service team delivered the vehicle and left the keys in the ignition, which when the chime came on it made sense that the work was done properly. However, when I got home, the chime kept chiming even after the key was removed from the ignition. This warning chime prevented me from knowing that my lights were still on and I drained my battery.
Today I took the vehicle in and after 6 more hours I was advised that the problem was the ignition switch and the recall didn't cover the switch.
What I don't understand is that if the dealer drilled the lock they would have had to replace the cylinder and the switch but now I was being charged for it because it was the only thing they could charge me for AFTER THEY ALREADY INSTALLED THE SWITCH but improperly.
The fact that they entered the wrong odometer and then blamed me for overdriving my vehicle alone is quite suspicious. The fact that the mechanism was already in place and they wanted to recouped half of their failed over billing makes me believe that this isn't the first time they have cheated their customer(s).
Be warned that service repairs will create more problems and they will attempt to avoid all warranty repairs without upselling.
