TruthFinder Reviews
Paid for reports that i didnt recieve
I received an e-mail confirmation of the account being cancelled and no further charges would be assessed, Bad me) didn't check credit card statements and they've billed me, sporadically over a six-month period (5 charges). Called my bank and filed fraud charges.
I saw an ad for Truthfinders.com on Facebook and thought I would give it a try, since I do a lot of genealogical research. I signed up and the first thing I did was submit my own name for investigation. The results that came back were nowhere near anything pertaining to myself. Everything about the information was inaccurate.
I knew at that point that I could not use this service so I phoned the customer service number. The young man I spoke to heard my story and immediately offered to cancel my account and give me a refund.
The refund did not show up in my bank account. So I called again. This time I spoke to a young lady. She said my account was already cancelled and there was a "limit" to what she could do about a refund. She had her supervisor listen to a tape of my conversation with the young man.
She claimed there was no mention of giving me a refund. I know what I heard. They promised to give me a "partial" refund. Not good enough.
I believe this service is a complete ripoff and I would like to see them out of business.
I signed up for a background report on somebody. Before i even paid for the report, i started receiving hundreds of spam and scam emails every day about porn, foreign brides, drugs, bitcoins, and worse.
When i contacted truthfinder they informed me that the privacy policy on their website states basically states that they may give away my personal and private information to whomever they choose. They said i could "unsubscribe" but this is not the case. The damage is done, my private email address is now in the hands of spammers and scammers all over the world. There is no unsubcribing, that ship has sailed. The one other time this nightmare happened to me it took around 40 hours to change my email address in the hundreds of places it's used. I bill $125 an hour for my time so i make it around $6000 that i'm out of pocket thanks to truthfinder.
After some background research, i believe they are running a scam. On their bbb page the ceo listed is also the ceo of a nearby company named "the control group" which specializes in email marketing. Therefore i'm making the assumption that truthfinder is not selling background checks at all, it's a front for stealing and selling email addresses and private information.
What truthfinder does not seem to have grasped, is just because you give yourself permission in a website policy to do something... Does not make it legal. The ftc and bbb have been interested to hear about what they are up to.
Bottom line – do not trust this company.
I first considered trying Truthfinder's services but after entering most of the information, including my email address, I started to get cold feet and I realized that I should read reviews first. Thank goodness I did & I read the negative reviews but it was too late for my email which began to get flooded with spammed email immediately within the next few days. This tells me that they definitely are not a legit business if they must sell out your email address to spammers. BEWARE!
I can't believe it! a charge of $42.00 that i could not identify showed up on my bank account and it turned out to be truthfinder! i did not purchase any info! all i did was follow some steps that popped up on my screen one day but at no time was a fee requested. In addition i stopped before any information was delivered. Most disturbing is that i never gave them my cc info.
Won't let me into account and very misleading
All i wanted to verify was a birthdate. After waiting and wasting 20 minutes of my time i got the pop up wanting money! they touted the site as free and lied.
There are truly free sites that can get you the info you need. Avoid this train wreck of a company.
Very deceitful... This annoys me beyond words.
I got one report but in the middle of it, it just stopped
Do not give your email to these people!! my email got hacked today. A fake message was sent from my email to me! i changed all my passwords. They must have been mad i didn't give them my credit card info. Please don't fall for this!
