Decking gross pay is 1.40/mi for a 4 way. less for 3 or 2 way. hub to hub gross pay is 1.00/mi usually a 3 or 4 way singles gross pay is .70/mi. there has never been a pay raise so over the past decade drivers are making less and less. Drivers pay all tolls, taxis and uber to airports and lodging, plus workmans comp. tm policy is a very strict, no eating or sleeping in trucks, if caught, your contract will be cancelled. Decking and hubs TM pays for airfare, usually a 2 or 3 leg flight and ALL day because its cheaper for them unpaid purgatory.

Airport food costs 2 or 3 times more $ and is not fit to feed your dog, usually. Drivers pay for fuel. they will reimburse a fuel surcharge, today it's $1.35/gallon. here is their dirty little secret. you must fill international trucks at PFJ. fuel costs 2.70 in laredo but they fill the tanks with their own fuel which they buy at discount but then charge you the PFJ rate or more. then leave texas and fuel costs 3 or more bucks per gallon. THIS ALL EQUATES TO AVERAGE DRIVER COST OF $1.70 A GALLON! or about .35 cpm. you are lucky to net .90 to 1.00 on decked loads.

If the truck gets.less than 5mpg? the driver pays the additional expense! they will tell you, you can ask for compensation, when they say no, you have no recourse. good luck on that. Singles fuel math is different. they average 9mpg or better! so fuel costs are closer to .20 cpm. you are lucky to net 50 cpm on the run. On hub loads, they FORCE you to take a single up to a few hundred miles away, sometimes to very remote areas where it is very expensive and time consuming to get to an airport.

Oh, you can refuse but you then have to pay your way back to a decked yard. either way you get the short end of the stick. Pre trip inspections are expected to be done during business hours. if you find damage it must be well documented and its best to let the hub management know. if you dont? you pay. surprisingly, the smallest of damage can cost you your entire $1,500. bond. Any undocumented damage or in-transit damage found after you deliver will be taken out of your 1500 bond.

the trucks usually have miles on them when you get them, up to a couple hundred miles so all sorts of damage can be found inside and out and delivery inspection includes a wash and literally an hours worth of two sets of eyes to find damage on each truck!. in short, drive away drivers frequently get the shaft, sometimes up to a year after delivery! we have no recourse, other than quitting. which they do. hence, high turnover. there is always a new unsuspecting driver. and driver supervisors will admit that!

No forced dispatch, so they say. refuse a load and they will make you wait a day (motel bill) for the next one, take that 55mph truck with no radio and no AC or wait until tomorrow... even with a yard full of trucks! If you see a 4 or 5 star rating of tm, its a simple lie. tm counts on you being math illiterate. OK, now that ive pointed out much of the lyin' cheatin' ways of this cut throat business model there is a way to make a living. I've been here awhile. no plans to leave any time soon. If i can do it, so can you!

TM counts on new unsuspecting drivers who will take horrible loads while not demanding better compensation. TM will pay all or part of: Airfare for singles going to canada, taxis that cost thru the nose, tolls, rush orders, out of route demands for service. you just have to be willing to say NO! then dicker with them like you own them! You are a contractor. act like it. When tm doesnt treat you right, hang up and call another company. never come crawling back.

if you do, they got you and they know it. After you gain experience, that experience is worth gold. act like it. Let some rookie driver take that load, wreck it, park it someplace where all the wheels and tires will be stolen or entire truck will be side swipped by a swift driver, or running all night long thru deer country to make an unrealistic deadline or deliver a wrecked truck to an unhappy customer. let them take the risk and then quit because they lost their $1500 bond and feel like tm just stuck a thousand dirty appendages in unspeakable places. they will quit. Do all that and you can eek out a $100+ g's GROSS per year with ample time off for all or most of the holidays. there are plenty of us that do. ps. get a good accountant.
