Travix Reviews

  • Nov 15, 2018

On November 3, 2018, I purchased a flight from "Vayama", which is a web site run by Travix Travel USA of San Jose, California. The flight, which cost $328.52, was on InterCaribbean Airlines from Montego Bay, Jamaica to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. The scheduled departure from Jamaica was 7:30 AM on November 12, 2018.

I left my hotel at 4:50 AM on November 12 and arrived to the airport at 4:55 AM. I was told that the counter for InterCaribbean would not open until 6:00 AM. Their counters are number 101 and 102, these are located is at the very end of the terminal, past the restrooms. They are isolated and separated by at least 500 feet, from the rest of the airline counters, which run together all the way down the airport.

I was the first person in line at the counter at about 5:45 AM. The counter opened at 6:05 AM. It was staffed by one woman. The company apparently does not own any computers, the lady just had a few printed out papers with peoples names.

She asked my destination and I told her Santo Domingo. She said "Oh my God. The very first one. That flight is cancelled."

She told me to wait over to one side while she "got more information". The next two people in line were also travelling to Santo Domingo, so we were all set aside.

Then she called me back up to the counter and asked me if I had a piece of paper to write a phone number. She wrote two numbers on my paper, 946-1805 and 927-9636. She said these numbers are in Jamaica, so dialing would be +1 876 .

I was to call the number and "rebook" my flight "for another day".

I immediately called both numbers and received the same voice message "extension 403 voice mailbox is full". I then gave up and decided to book a flight on American Airlines leaving that same day in the afternoon. I emailed "Vayama" and explained what had happened.

I received a reply stating that it was me who had missed the flight, and that the flight was NOT cancelled. I could rebook the flight and PAY FOR IT. I wrote them back stating that was complete bologna and a lie, and received a reply back from them saying that "since I missed my flight I could call the airline and rebook for another day".

For sure I was at the counter when it opened at 6:05 am, I was the first one there. And FOR SURE the flight was cancelled.

However, according to several websites which publish historical flight schedules, InterCaribbean flights to Santo Domingo were totally cancelled that Monday. Had I "been able" to actually reach the company by phone, and "rebooked for another day", I would have had actually to sit in the airport and wait for THREE DAYS for the next flight, which was November 15, 2018.

"Vayama" still claims it was me who missed the flight, and that the flight was not cancelled, and they refuse to refund my money. They claim that I could just be making it up, that I was there, and I suppose the flight schedule web sites are just making it up too, that the flight was cancelled. Like it is some kind of conspiracy against them.

I am not sure how this became "the norm" in the USA, that people can just make up stuff however they want and just lie about it. Humans really ought to go back to being honest and respectable, there used to be a time like that.

To me, they are clearly a dishonest company, and lying like they are is fraud, in my opinion. They obviously do not care one iota about the customer. What kind of company would expect a customer to sit in an airport for three days and wait on them, because they cancelled the flight?

In my opinion, this company should not be permitted to have a license in California, and also I believe they should not be permitted to have a merchant account and handle customer credit cards. I can only hope they are hanging on desperately to my $328.52 because they are hanging by a thread financially and about to go out of business. That would be a benefit to many travellers.
