I booked an apartment December 23-31 using Travelmob for my daughter's christmnas vacation in New York City. Reservation 1C2VX-T6BP-D3EZ. Travelmob then contacted the local building rental service, Booking Helpers/Noah Rentals run by Maria Sanchez-Johnson (607-218-8880)
We arrived on December 23 to a small row house in Harlem whose address was different than what Travelmob sent me in the reservation. I was informed in writing by Travelmob that the address of the apartment was 514 W 136 Street. The actual address is 518 W 136 Street.
This house/building is an old run-down building in Harlem. It is NOT what was advertised on the internet! The host/greeter (Garcia 347-583-5097) who lives in the building, stated that the address was sent to me intentionally incorrect so that the fire marshall and code enforcement personnel could not inspect the aprtment(s) and apartment building.
Garcia took us to our apartment, #19. It was a dirty, disgsting, falling apart, misrepresented apartment. The bathroom and bedroom ceilings were crumbling, the bedrooms were miniscule, the bathroom was mold infested, and they charged $350 per nght!
The apartment and building is illegal to habitate and would have placed my daughter and I in serious health and safety risk if we had stayed there becuase:
1. There was no fire sprinkler system as required by law for hotel rooms or short-stay rentals.
2. There was no centrally monitored fire detection system as required by law for any hotel rooms or short-stay rental.
3. It is illegal in New York City to rent apartments for less than 30 days stays.
4. The bedroom windows that led to a fire escape were bolted shut.
5. The heating system was inoperable and the outside temperature was 35 degrees.
Due to the fact that the apartment and building were unsafe and illegal to habitate, I knew that staying in the apartment was very dangerous, and wasnt an option so I was forced to make dozens of calls at 8PM at night to New York City Hotels at Christmas. Luckily I was able to find a reasonably priced hotel.
We then took a taxi and went directly to the hotel.
My credit card reflects Travelmob reservation for Dec 23-31 that was made on November 18, 2016. My credit card also reflects hotel reservation made at 8:30PM on Dec 23, also for time period of Dec 23-31, which unequivocally proves that I didnt stay in the apartment even for 30 minutes.
I emailed Travelmob, Booking Helpers, and Noah Rentals at 11:15PM on Dec 23 requesting full refund, and to comply with their cancellation policies. I explained the reasons in detail (the illegal, unsafe, and disgusting apartment they rented to me). They are refusing to refund my hard earned money.
DO NOT BOOK with TRAVELMOB, BOOKING HELPERS, OR NOAH RENTALS!!!!
