You want to ship your car and you want a good deal. You are smart enough to know that you need to research companies so you don't get ripped off. The largest review website out there is "transportreviews com" and it looks legit. It looks like you can look up companies by state or by broker or by carrier. It looks like you can search through hundreds of reviews. It LOOKS legit but it is really a SCAM.
If you pay closer attention and know what to look for you would see past the facade.
Try searching for brokers and then search for carriers... SAME companies! Why list a broker as a carrier? Because most people know they should book with a carrier if they want to eliminate the middleman.
The companies with hundreds of great reviews are usually "supporters" or the reviews are posted as "compensated". If you pay to be a supporter, the company gives you top billing and for every 1 bad review you will see 30 over the top reviews.
If a company does a great job for you, do they really need to compensate you to give them a great review?
Small companies with only a few reviews get the short end of the stick only because they won't pay to be a supporter. If you don't pay to support the site they havebeen known to remove positive reviews claiming the reviews are fake and will not re-post them when you give them proof.
What started out as a great idea (before they started charging money) has turned into a greedy scam site that will allow fake bad reviews stay with good companies that do not pay and will erase real bad reviews for those that do pay.
This site is a scam and a fake and will cost you time and money if you choose a company only based on the posted reviews.
To research a company, try Googling the company name and the word "complaints" & check with the BBB.
ALL Carriers & Brokers are required to list their MC#/DOT# on their websites. IF you do not see one or the other, steer clear of them.
You can look up a company by their MC#/DOT# by going to: li-public.fmcsa.dot.gov/LIVIEW/pkg_menu.prc_menu and search either #. If they are a broker you will see either a Bond or the words "Trust Fund" listed under their insurance. A Carrier will show actual insurance.
I sure hope this helps a few of you to avoid a nightmare.
How can a company have an F rating with the Better Business Bureau and a 5/5 star rating on transportreviews.com?
I'll tell you how. Fake positive reviews. Total Scam.
Examples:
Auto Transport 123 (F Rated with the BBB)
I MOVE AUTO (F Rated with the BBB)
Ultimate Auto Shipping (Parent Company Auto Transport 123)
BWT Group (F Rated with the BBB with major scam warnings)
Elite Auto Shipping (staten island - they set up fake office in other cities to hide this location in your Google searches)... they suck. Look at the phone numbers for their other locations... all with the same 800 number!
Always look at the BBB site and make sure you don't get fooled by fake BBB listings because the BBB is too lazy to check. Hard to find good help these days. Elite Auto Shipping Inc. should be ashamed of themselves. The fraud they are committing should be looked into by the Justice Department. It's fraud to claim you have many offices that are just PO Boxes or friends houses. Give me a break! The playing field should be level. Hard working business people need the government to get off their asses and check these companies that pull this crap and close them down. Fine them. Take away their business license. In other words - DO YOUR JOB!
Let me start by saying, i've written maybe 2 reports like this in the past, so for me to spend time writing this, you better know it's justified.
Shipping new audi s4 ($65,000)
North miami --> fort collins
Ok, here's what happened. Just got a call from this guy after sending out a couple of requests online for quotes. Within a few mintues, i received 4 quotes ranging from $750 - $ 1100 Enclosed carrier). This guy was the last of the calls. He proceeded to let me know he has multiple vendors he uses. He charges $ 250 broker fee and then passes through the actual shipping rates. His cheapest option for an open carrier was $ 900 Plus $ 250 broker fee) and could only get to denver for this price. It was cost additionally for local transport from denver to fort collins.
I said "thanks, i just posted this online Which is obviously how he found me) and i've just started getting quotes from multiple carri" and before i could even finish syaing the word "carriers" he cut me off...
"if you're just shopping around, you must be a cheapskate, and just can't afford to pay for a service like his. If i can't afford it, you'd be better off driving down there and picking it up yourself!!", he then hung up on me??!!??!!
If only he knew, i'm buying this car, an new audi s4 ($65,000), for my daughter as a graduation present, so as you can see, this isn't a "cheapskate" car.
In summary, i'm writing this in the hope that the owner might read this and understand that you shouldn't pre-judge anyone, especially over the phone. I did see other outscam on this company which i'm not surprised, and it does look like the owner enjoys getting into banter / rebuttals, so i"m espeically interested how he responds to this.
