Transmission Specialist Reviews

  • Feb 27, 2018

I contacted J.R. by email to get pricing for a rebuilt transmission for my truck on 11/27/2017. I received an email with pricing, email also noted that it was subject to availability. I emailed him back to see if indeed they had one available. J.R. emailed back and with yes, they are built to order and usually takes approx 7 days from order till delivery. So I got my funds together and called him. He told me to go to there website to make the payment. I went ahead and made an echeck payment which funded on 11/29/2017. I emailed him to check when I should expect it. Response was "building as we speak". Being in the automotive repair business myself I knew it sometiimes took a

few days to rebuild a transmission. I emailed on 12/04/2017 to check progress, response was "almost complete, once picked up i would get an email with tracking info. On 12/06/2017 I emailed for an update. Response " Just got backed up waiting on parts. Hope to ship end of week". On 12/08/2017 emailed for update. Response "Backed up waiting on parts". Emailed few more times for updates still same waiting on parts responses. On 12/18/2017 got response "Hope to finish today and ship tomorrow". 12/19/2017 got response "Waiting on truck pick up". Last response had my hopes up. 12/21/2017 respons "Still waiting on truck. They are backed up due to holiday". I

emailed on 12/27/2017, response "Shop closed for the week". 01/02/2018 same response "just need truck pick up". Same response all the way to 01/24/2018, where I ended up asking for a refund. I asked if he could wire the money to me, he then proceeded to point out their refund policy which is way on the bottom of their website in fine print, "In the unlikely event merchandise does not arrive within 6 weeks time period from order placement, customer may make a request for full refund, in writing, and a refund will be mailed within 14 days from the time we received your refund notice. *This is the only exception to our .. No Refund Policy. All checks are mailed to the name and address

as it appeared on the check we received with your order, no exceptions." I got a response that the check was mailed on 02/05/2018. I did not receive a check in the mail. I emailed J.R. on 02/20/2018 letting him know i still did not receive the check, and threatened legal means of getting my money back. I also called J.R. and requested that the money be wired to me. He told me that is not possible as they are too busy to do something like that, well in my opinion they are just shady. I got an email on 02/24/2014 with a usps tracking number. I finally received a refund check on 02/26/2018, almost 3 months since making the order and over a month since requesting a refund. This

company's business practices are unethical. Their website says they have over 32 years in the transmission business. It should say over 32 years taking money they did not earn, we take out short term loans to keep in business. They took my money and held it for 3 months without paying me interest. I think if they hold you money for that long and you don't get what you paid for they should be paying you what the short term loan companies charge, i did some research and they charge 325% apr for payday loans.

August 23rd 2017 ordered and paid rebuild transmission for $ 1,600.00. Product never received. After long period of time and many excuses I requested full refund but return check received was short $ 100.00 stating processing fee. Check had NSF and I had to pay fee for bounced check with no refund my money.

They took my money & sent me the wrong transmission!! I went online to the Transmission Specialist's website & ordered a rebuilt transmission & torque converter. I was asked to pay upfront with an e-check, which I did. The money was withdrawn from my account almost immediately. I won't get into all the in between details about the back & forth issues of where to have it shipped & how much extra it was going to cost me (even though his website states free shipping) & how long it took to actually get the transmission, I will just state my MAJOR complaint of this place & how they conduct "business".

I picked up the long awaited transmission (after an almost 2 hr. drive to the shipping center I was told it had to be sent to in order to avoid a costly shipping fee), & it was installed. My vehicle still was not starting up right or shifting correctly. I had figured out by this point, & made the assumption that trying to negotiate a fix to this issue was going to be pointless & time consuming considering the hassle I already went through just to get it, & then to have it not work when I finally did get it. I just did not feel they were a business that could be trusted anymore. At this point, so much of my time, money & patience had already been lost due to my main work vehicle being down, I needed to expedite an immediate fix to this problem & & take it to a real transmission specialist that was local & had credentials & references that proved trust worthy. The place where I chose to take it has a great reputation for excellent work & phenomenal customer service.

I was told by the new transmission professional (& even shown) the transmission that was shipped to me from Transmission Specialist, was the WRONG transmission for my vehicle!!! Not only that.....but it was also missing a key component from the center of the transmission. It was never going to work in my vehicle, nor any vehicle for that matter, since it was missing a main part! I ended up having to pay this new shop to remove the faulty transmission & had to buy an entirely new transmission to be installed.

After I picked up my vehicle (& the faulty transmission), it ran perfectly. I contacted JR & gave him the benefit of the doubt, after all mistakes do happen, I told him everything I had just been through & all the additional money I had to spend to correct his mistake & get my vehicle running again. His response to me was "you voided the warranty be not shipping the core back to us, & you voided your warranty when you had someone else work on it, our warranty states all work is to be done only by us." I told him I was never told anything about the warranty, nor was I sent any paper work on it, I even went online to search for this "warranty" he kept referring to & it says "you must request the warranty". So I did, he never sent it to me & his only idea to rectify this situation was for me to pay to have it shipped back to him & he would inspect it to see for himself if there ever really was anything wrong with it. I asked him to come up with another solution because he had already proven he was not trustworthy. He then flat out told me "a refund is NOT going to happen, & as far as he was concerned this was a closed matter.

So there you have it, he was perfectly ok with sending me the wrong transmission that was built incorrectly & refused to be a stand up man & own his mistake & give me my hard earned money back. I googled & did some research & found SEVERAL complaints, reports, & bad reviews on this place, I have no idea how they are still in business. My guess is they survive solely on scamming people & ripping people off, because Lord knows they aren't relying on the income from satisfied repeat customers. This was a hard lesson to learn, but I'm glad I learned how to spot a scammer in the future. I hope people will do what I failed to do, which is google them first & see my report along with the others & see all the bad reviews before sending them an e-check. You can only go so far before good ol karma catches up to you though, right?
