We replaced two of our air handlers which carried higher SEER Ratings as recommended by Trane. Almost immediately we started noticing a musty odor around those air handles as well as excess condensation. Our allergies went through the roof. After considerable investigation I have found that Trane is aware of the problem.
The basic cause of the above problems is Trane changed the internal coil sizes to meet the new SEER Requirements. What happens is the units cool the air quicker enableing the units to shut off quicker. By doing that the air is not circulated enough over the coils to remove the humidity. This compunded by the fact the units are creating greater condensation creats a nightmare.
There are multiple solutions which all require considerable cost such as varible speed fans, whole house dehumidifiers, Humidistats, or modulating hvac systems.
Trane is aware of this issue but fails to inform the public or offer solutions to homeowners who install their systems.
Due to a shotty installation I have had nothing but issues with my Heat Pump Units, over 12 service calls in 4 years, the install was in 2013. I had a second certified Trane company (alternate from the installer/FORMER service provider) to fix my unit once again that is not cooling, mind you these units are not even 5 years old. The input he provided was sickening and shed a light on the matter greatly, I am infuriated with the installer, (who shall remain nameless for now) and Trane, who allowed such a person to install their product. I will list the matters as it will be easier to list than write a novel on the issues I have had over the past 4 and a half years.
1.My upstairs unit is on its THIRD Compressor, they have swapped it out twice.--To this day it still has additional delays and filters on it that are required to function-Not Normal!
2.Since the install, we have had approximately 12 service calls (WHICH WAS PAID FOR BY MYSELF AFTER YEAR 1!)
3.The 20XL that I purchased was paired to the incorrect air handler unit and was essentially downgraded below the 20 SEER level that I purchased...SO the INSTALLER Could save money! –the installer talked me into purchasing the top of the line unit to save on my electric bill only to downgrade it, essentially defrauding my household.
4.The new company just brought to my attention that neither of my CleanEffects Air Filters were registered by the installer, nor was the serialized thermostat (which I had to beg the installer to install)(That is now Broken and in need of "Warranty" replacement).
5.The attic Unit Leaked which I had to insulate to prevent condensation, preventing FURTHER damage to my home...rather than paying for another service call!
If I have had all of these issues (plus some) within the first 4 years, how many more issues will I have when these units are actually old?
All of the issues with my $16,000 systems are because of a poor install. I have provided all corresponding documentation to Trane's "Senior Escalations Specialist" who has, since 23MAR, not done 1 thing to rectify this situation. Furthermore, she has not responded to my last 4 e-mails. Trane has stonewalled me and will not do anything to resolve any of my ongoing issues, they have yet to offer up a single solution. Not to mention the fact that the shotty install is slowly affecting the life-span of my units, decreasing it greatly! I purchased Trane because it was supposed to be the best, to this day I have not experienced anything short of awful. This whole experience has been dreadful, if it is not resolved to my satisfaction I will have no other choice to convey my discontent with everyone I meet and encounter. Strongly suggesting that they avoid Trane like the plague, to avoid the extreme stress and strain that Trane has put on me and my pocketbook. This is NOT what I was purchasing when I bought the "Best".
I contracted with SPECTRUM Air, Fort Myers, to install a new Trane XL20i complete system on May 21,2012. I also bought a 12-yr extended warranty (parts and labor) at the time from you, through SPECTRUM. Installation was without problems.
Within days I asked SPECTRUM to come back out and see why there was a loud buzz-hum coming from the unit. They found no problem. This noise issue was assessed several times over the past 5 years, with the same conclusion from SPECTRUM—no problem. They could not diagnose a problem and they never offered to replace the defective compressor.
Warranty Problem
Because my neighbors (and we) were getting fed-up with the noise after several years, my only remaining option was to have another certified Trane specialist look at it. I called the Bruno Air people who came out and investigated the unit. They found that the hi-stage compressor was drawing 12.5 amps, more than the 5.5 amps for the unit. They suggested that I get it replaced under warranty because running at that level would contaminate the refrigerant and damage the system. Trane agreed with the diagnosis and approved the replacement per their parts warranty.
I agreed to have Bruno make the replacement but was informed that my extended warranty from your company would not cover the $1950.00 labor costs because the work had to be done by the original installer. I had to pay out-of-pocket to replace the original bad compressor. I do not believe this to be consistent with the way this extended warranty was sold to me.
Several months later the coil had to be replaced under warranty, but, again, the TRANE warranty company refused to cover labor--anbother $2,000 out of my pocket, not to mention the original cost of the warranty.
Purchased trane a/c in 2012. 10 yeaar parts warranty. Customer responsible for labor and freon. This cost me $940.00. It is my opinion that a recall should be made for this report. My investigation there are hundreds of complaints.
Had a trane XV20i and tam8 installed july 2014 .It took over two weeks to make it work and then only fair. In the first year the compressor stopped and burned wires, also the evaporator coil leaked and was replaced.Next summer stopped again took over a week this time more parts worked fair again.2016 guess what POS stopped more parts, installer said no longer will sell or work on train! Now summer of 2017 earley june stopped I called 4 companies that sell and repair trane none will touch the Xy20i !!! Found a former trane co willing to fix it,three weeks more parts plus them on the phone to trane tech support DOES NOT WORK! The repair co. wantes trane tech to come here to fix it we will see. Three years in only two parts left to replace condensor coil and reversing valve. Every year called trane complant line ,responce" I see you have caller before will look in to it " .Now want me to send all bills to see what they will do. I will never trust trane again. Trane needs to be sued
I was told that I bought the best when I bought 2 Trane 4 ton 14 seer heat pumps 9 and a half years ago. It comes with a 10 yesr warranty and you'll never need it they said!
Well let me tell you about the ripoff. The coil on one of my outdoor units failed. It split and allowed all of the refrigerant to escape. Trane covered the replacement coil and I paid $135 to diagnose the problem and $1350 labor to replace the part. I found out that you have to purchase the extended warranty to cover the labor. The extended warranty was not mentioned 9.5 years ago and why would I have purchased it because I bought the best units with a warranty that I will never need. The ripoff started when it took Trane 3 weeks to get the part to my house. This delay caused the atmosphereic contamination due to the bad coil to further degrade the rest of my system. Moisture causes harm to refrigeration systems.
After replacing the coil and recharging the system the competent service provider found that the valve on the inside coil wasn't working. So Trane covered the TXV valve and I paid $850 labor to replace the part. Now my HVAC unit has been down a total of 5 weeks but at least it's fixed, or so I thought.
It was cold last night so I turned on the heat. No heat, I call the competent service provider and he found that the TXV vale on my outdoor unit wasn't working. Trane will cover the part again and I will have to pay the $850 labor again. The competent service provider tells me that my compressor does not sound good when it is starting and stopping. So If I replace the TXV valve on this outdoor unit the compressor could fail and cost me $850 labor on top of it all!
Well I had heard enough. I called Trane Consumer Affairs department and was told that they can't help me, they do not care that the manufacturing defect in the outdoor coil destroyed my system and just explained the limited warranty to me over and over again.
So I warn everyone that reads this don't be stupid. Don't buy Trane because I was advised by Trane consumer affairs that my hvac system is almost 10 years old and I should consider replacing it. Is this the best hvac you can buy or is it just the most expensive one? All I asked Trane to do is send me a compressor with the second TXV valve so I can escape this endless cycle of failures due to the excessive amout of time that it took Trane to provide the replacement coil.
Trane states in it's advertising that "Nothing Stops A Trane". The informationand advertising is a flat out lie.
I bought a top of the line Trane Home Air Conditioner, model XV201 for $12,000, and registered the unit with Trane as instructed.
A few months after the purchase a mouse entered a terribly designed outer frameof the unit that has a 5 inch opening at the bottom of the outside, chewed up the wiring, and now I'm left with a very expensive non-warranted fix. Meanwhile, I'm putting up with the consequences of improperproper HVAC in my home.
The Engineering is absolutely stupid. Any idiot knows an outside Air Conditioner Unit that sits on the ground is subject to animal intrusion, including but not limited to mice, rats, squirrels, and many other critters. A Racoon can enter the bottom of the unit because the opening is so large.
I called Trane, spoke with a fellow named Brian in Customer Support, and got absolutely nowhere.
I asked him to call HE Smith Company, the Trane dealer that installed the $12,000 unit, and he replied "We do not call our Retailers". All I wanted was for Trane to re-engineer the huge opening in the bottom of the unit and not charge me for the damage done by a mouse.
BEWARE OF TRANE and Trane Air Conditioners!!!!
No customer support, they do not communicate with their dealers to help their customers, and send you off into a merry-go-round when you have a legitimate problem with their top of the line $12,000 product.
In addition, the advertising is misleading, and I guess I'm going to sue them for this mess.
We built a new house in July of 2008. It had a Trane 5 ton electric heat/air conditioning system installed. 5 days before the 5 year warranty ran out on the evapator coil it failed. Even though they covered the coil under warranty it cost me more that 800.00 in labor and R-22 freon to get it fixed.
Now, 2 years later it just went out again. And this time there isn't any warranty.
I was always told that trane was the best. I can say they're wrong. I wouldn't recommend their product to anyone after this experience. It will cost me more than 1600.00 to get it fixed this time. That's rediculus.
