Tower Hill Insurance Group Reviews

The short version: Hurricane Irma caused a tree to fall on our house, along with several more on the property. The initial estimate of loss was incomplete by more than half. And this isn't damage that a contractor needed uncover. The estimate contained many items that said pending bid and a tremendous amount of items that were omitted completely. After 3 months Tower Hill paid out on the incomplete estimate despite the pending bids and omissions and have done nothing else on our claim in 7 months except jerk us around. We had to hire a public adjuster to estimate the complete loss, which is not a recoverable expense by the way. My family and I, which includes our 100 year old grandmother!, are living in a half destroyed house with mold. My daughter's room is uninhabitable so we had to rent an RV to put on the property because she is the primary care giver for our grandmother. Even though we have plenty of Additional Living Expense (ALE) coverage, Tower Hill has stopped reimbursing us after 3 payments.

Payments that were all 3 months late by the way. Three months! How do they expect people to carry additional living expenses for 3 months? From all of the expenses we are now $29,000 in debt and rising each month. This is criminal in my opinion.

To add insult to injury, our mortgage company, PennyMac, will not release funds for items that are not expressly listed on the worksheet that is provided by the insurance company. The worksheet details the work to be done but more importantly the work they are paying out on. Because the estimate was so grossly under estimated there is work that needs to be done prior to the work they paid out on, i.e. electrical, plumbing, re-framing, code upgrades (none of these were on Tower Hill's estimate). So effectively, no work is being done on our house with money sitting in escrow that we have no control over.

The long version in case anyone wants to file a Civil Remedy Notice of Insurer Violations : We sustained a wind loss with ensuing damage at our property caused by Hurricane Irma. We promptly reported the claim to our insurer, Tower Hill Insurance Company a/k/a Omega Insurance Company. In response to the claim, Tower/Omega performed an inspection of the property and determined that the policy covered the loss. Tower/Omega subsequently made multiple payments to us under Coverages A (Dwelling), B (Other Structures), and C (Personal Property) totaling less than half of the true loss amount. Tower/Omega also tendered partial payments under Coverage D (Loss of Use). Unfortunately, the claim payments under each coverage were incomplete and inaccurate in scope and amount, and we were forced to obtain independent estimates for our covered losses. The estimates obtained by us, which accurately reflected our covered losses, exceeded the amounts previously paid by Tower/Omega. On April 18, 2018, we contacted Tower/Omega about the insufficient claim payments and submitted a Sworn Statement in Proof of Loss ("POL") along with supporting documentation. The POL included the amount claimed under coverages A (Dwelling), B (Other Structures), and C (Personal Property). These amounts were based on the estimates received and other supporting documentation that were provided to Tower/Omega. Additional payments are also due under Coverage D for our loss of use of our premises. Despite its timely receipt of the POL and notice of the claim dispute, Tower/Omega has refused to tender the remaining amount due and owing. Tower/Omega has acted in bad faith by failing to properly and promptly investigate the claim, failing to pay the full amount of the covered loss, and failing to communicate with us in contravention of Florida law. Tower/Omega has not attempted in good faith to settle the claim when, under all the circumstances, it could and should have done so, had it acted fairly and honestly toward us and with due regard for our interests. They have failed to adopt and implement standards for the proper investigation of our claim. They have failed to acknowledge and act promptly upon communications with respect to our claim. They have denied to pay out our claim without conducting reasonable investigations based upon available information. They have failed to promptly provide a reasonable explanation in writing to us of the basis in the insurance policy, in relation to the facts or applicable law, for denial of our claim or for the offer of a compromise settlement. They have failed to promptly notify us of any additional information necessary for the processing of a claim.

Here are some statutes that are of interest that may or may not be relevant to your individual problem.

Tower Hill insurance has a policy that if you file one single water damage claim back in 2009 (told by the underwriter it could be 100 years ago) they have a policy that they will non-renew coverage and will deny coverage for the rest of your life!!! this is what happened to me. upon calling the state's department of financial services, They indicate, while immoral, it is apparently not illegal for them to do this.... You have been warned!!! BEWARE!!!

I am upset because my homeowners policy was due on December 17thand was set up to be paid out of my escrow account. The motgage company disbursed the check on DEcember the 10th, but was not received by th 17th according to Tower Hill.As a result I had to send them a personal check on the 17th to avoid cancellation of my policy. That day or the day after they processed the disbursed check from the mortgage company and also processed the dupliacte payment. It is January 4th , and I still havent received a refund. I was told the refund was mailed on December 28th. This has been 7 business days. It does not take mail 7 days to go from Gainesville to Vero Beach. They have had the duplicate payment

for 18 days. This is not right.
