I started working for this company in June of 2017. The company is owned by a guy named Mike Powers who doesn’t actually live in Minnesota. He lives in Hollywood, California and hires others to run his company. He has a lady in the office named Nancy Walter who runs most the company operations. My time in 2017 with this company was great until they hired a guy named Kelly O’brien. I wasn’t aware of Kelly’s fraudulent background. He started out as a salesman and couldn’t sell any jobs and somehow convinced Mike Powers to make him sales manager in the fall of 2017 and eventually general manager of the company. I sold $2 million dollars in restoration for To Serve Contracting and as my jobs were completing in the fall / winter of 2017 I noticed Kelly O’brien began stalling jobs. He told me that he was stopping production of jobs for a few months. I had a metal roofing project that he put on hold. He told me there was only $15,000 profit in the job and that To Serve Contracting couldn’t take the job because there wasn’t any profit. I reached out to two other companies who are friends of mine and gave them the numbers and they each confirmed there was at least $50,000 profit in the job. I told the owner of the metal job he could change companies because Kelly O’brien said To Serve couldn’t take the job and that he hadn’t given them any money and they also had me use a Minnesota contract to sign a Wisconsin job.
This is illegal as I confirmed it with the Wisconsin board of contractors. By this time it was too late and the owner of the metal buildings confirmed he was using another company. I questioned Kelly O’briens Integrity after this and within 10 minutes I was locked out of my company email and CRM program. Mike Powers, Kelly O’brien and Nancy Walter refused to answer my emails and had their attorney send me a cancellation of my independent contractor agreement. I then had to talk to their attorney who refused to act with integrity and accused me of deleting the thread of emails to "fabricate a storyline” I had 10-15 jobs in the system to which I haven’t been paid on. I began to worry about my jobs and other sales guys confirmed Kelly O’brien’s irrational and deceptive behaviors in the office. I had a friend of mine who’s a private investigator perform an extensive background check on Kelly O’brien and he came back with 15 documents of civil disputes and lawsuits against O’brien.
I then called the State of Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry and they sent me a document about Kelly O’brien and how he had used deceptive business practices in attempt to gain more than the fair market value on insurance claims from insurance companies on storm damaged properties. He held the homeowners money hostage and caused them harm financially. The company he owned was called Sundance Construction and this civil lawsuit revoked Kelly O’brien from having a contractors license in the state of Minnesota. They told me they didn’t even want him managing a company because of his fraudulent and deceptive business practices. I filed a companint with them.
They still refuse to pay me or answer my emails and hide behind an attorney. I found out from other salesman that I’m not the only one that Kelly O’brien and Mike Powers stole money from. They systematically stall jobs and then weed out salesman and split their commissions. It’s a standard shake, rake and take system that’s common in the storm restoration business. Bottom line is To Serve Contracting is a dishonest restoration company with Mike Powers holding the puppet strings manipulating salesguys and production managers. Kelly O’brien is right there with him and has a past tarnished with fraud, corruption and even domestic abuse. Don’t take my word for it though, do yourself a favor and do the research.
This company also doesn’t complete jobs all the way, I managed a condo project last year and Kelly O’brien refused to send out people to clean up the mess they left, I paid my friend to go out a dozen times to clean up trash and materials on the job when I went out of town for the winter because Kelly O’brien refused to send anyone out. I have several homeowners who have complaints about their clean up and construction process and all have stated that I went above and beyond the call of duty having my friend clean up after the mess that To Serve and Kelly O’brien refused to do. When the HOA sent a request to the office Nancy Walter said they handled everything they asked. If I were a homeowner or a salesman I wouldn’t trust To Serve Contracting, do your own research, you’ll be surprised.

He tried to become a manager and when he does he tried to illegally steal money from the salesguys and manipulate them into firing them. He is a scumbag and can't sell jobs so he uses others and controls them and then fires them and steals their money. He currently works for To Serve Contracting and has worked for several other companies that have fired him for similar business practices. Beware this guy is a fraud and a con artist. RUN!
