TICA Tenancy database (TICA Insurances Pty Lty, TICA Tenancy Control Pty Ltd, TICA Assist Pty Ltd) claims to be setup to protect the investment of property owners in Australia by keeping information about bad tenants on a database which can be accessed by property owners nationally. This is rubbish. They encourouge landlords to put false information about good tenants on the database, making it near impossible for them to rent a place so they can extort money from them when they try to have it removed.
They do this by defaming tenants on the database then directing them to a number charged at $5.45 per minute to "discuss having it removed". Even after sending proof of false information placed on the database they will keep directing to the charged number to extort more money and will not remove the false information.
Defamation and extortion is illegal in Australia.
If you have proven the information in the database is false it is an offence to extort money to have it removed.
If you have been affected by this scam:
Step 1. Notify the tenancy authority in your state and demand an investigation be launched
Step 2. Call the fair trade ombudsman in your state
