Thor Motor Coach Reviews

Thor caused me to live and sleep in a dangerous and unhealthy environment from March 15 to October 3rd, just because they didn’t want to accept responsibility for an interior gas fume problem which was caused at their manufacturer due to negligence. An emergency diagnostic test which should have been done by Thor in March was performed in September by Rich Ford in Albuquerque NM. The test showed the fuel tank had a hole drilled in the top of tank by Thor Manufacturer while installing my house on Ford’s chassis.

As a result, the tank was pulled and a new tank was installed by Rich Ford on October 2nd. I was as amazed by this finding as Rich Ford's employees. Who stated, "you are a lucky woman; you could have easily died of asphyxiation and/or developed more health issues due to this situation,” employees said. More than anything else, I suffered from headaches, asthma attacks, raspy and hoarse voice which I never had before, and still exit. Further, I had a heart-attack when my son died in October 2014; open-heart and mitral valve replacement in March 2017, and a stroke in August 2017, I replied. You’re really blessed to have survived those major health issues. "You didn’t need Thor to add anything else to it,” another employee said.

Further, when I did a walk-thru of my mobile home with Jordan Buckley, my salesman on mhrvs dealership lot. I noticed and called Buckley's attention to warped boards in front of the kitchen sink. "It would take a while to get that area redone. However, I will note it on your Vin# warranty for future repair", he said. I don’t believe you, was my response. Although, he promised a second time the flaw would be noted on my vin. As expected, a check indicated he didn’t. Buckley’s only goal was to get another mobile home sold from his dealership’s lot for extra bragging rights.

Further, I called Buckley from the shoulder of the highway, while waiting on AAA RV Plus transport truck to return my vehicle back to MHRVS based on an indicator light that appeared on my dashboard. No, don’t bring it back. Let me check something. Upon returning to the phone, Buckley claimed the light was a gas cap issue which should go out in a few more hours into your trip. "You know it’s a brand-new vehicle which hadn’t been driven before. But if the light does not go out you should replace the gas cap. The light never went out but was joined by the engine light. A call to Thor Warranty Center was useless. Support specialist adamantly claimed the dashboard lights were Ford’s responsibility.

I called Ford to discuss the beforementioned indicator lights. Upon contacting Ford and explaining the cap and engine light issues. A service center employee stated, "We are tired of Thor blaming us for problems caused by their manufacturer. The facts are, we only created the chassis which does not include gas caps or engine issues. Thor built your house on a Ford chassis and is responsible for every house issue that occurs. The bottom line is Thor doesn’t claim responsibility for anything, because they don’t want to pay for repairs/replacements.

As a result, I lived with the smell of gas fumes and indicator lights on my dashboard, from March 15 to October 3rd. As well as, warped floor boards in my kitchen. In addition, I was stranded by a failed level jack that would not retract due to a hydraulic fuel leak upon arriving at my Sioux Falls camper ground after purchasing this mobile home. The jack was finally removed by a mechanic and stored in a storage compartment on my mobile home where it still remains. Again, the warranty center does not want to send a new jack to the mhrvs service center for replacement; where I'm waiting on their property for replacement repair items to be shipped.

I bought a 2016 Thor Chataeu 31W motor home new in February 2016. This motor home has one large slide and on November 20117 the slide motor failed. I tokk it to a shop where they discovered the slide mechanisim was not installed correctly at the factory. The motor shoul be sitting paralel with the slide but the top of motor was tilted toward the slide and making contact. So every time I would open and close the slide screws on the moving part of slide was digging into the motor. So one year and 9 months later the motor shorted out and quit. Thor started this failure in motion when they installed the slide wrong and of course it was out of warranty according to them. The shop wrote a sstory on the work order which I sent to Thor along with a request to reimbuse $669.98 that this cost me and to crrect the reason themotor is tilted aall under a Good Will Warranty. They refused and stated my warrant expired on Fedruary 2017. They would not step up and do the right thing.

10/28/16 bought 2017 Thor Outlaw REsidence edition. This means instead of a toy hauler, a master bedroom is in the back. King size bed, ceiling fan, 2nd bathroom. And a door leads outside the bathroom to a drop down patio that includes a sink, mini fridge, 50" TV with soundbar and storage. (I refer to it as "the bus")

This has been our dream for 2 years. My husband retired from his job as a lineman at a large public utility company and does contract labor through his union. Lots of travel, see the the USA, and he wanted a patio to bring our dog in and out of the home. Perfect set up.

10/29 The check engine light came on <75 miles away from the dealer.

11/19 Took the bus to a specific business that does warranty work on the Ford motor/chassis. They ran all the codes through the computer, cleared all codes, and said nothing was wrong. Drove the bus 47 miles to our house, and the next day, 84miles to the town my husband is working. Check engine light comes on before the bus gets to its final destination. The light is still on.

12/1 My husbands next job was in Hot Springs AR (246 miles away) where we are now. Staying in a hotel. $73/night. Since 12/10

12/10 But. The bus is at Camping World (CW) in Little Rock AR (55 miles away) because of these issues. 1) heating system in front part of bus did not work. 2) night shade on window above sink was broken. 3) leak around window unit in master bedroom. (There were 5 other minor issues that CW fixed)

12/13 Recieved call from CW that control board to fix heater wouldn't be shipped until 12/23. I called Thor and was told the parts were not in the warehouse. I said you know, we paid $15k down, $953/ month for the bus we can't live in, and will have paid $1600 for the hotel by 12/23. Ron said he would check into it and call me back. Yay! They would go ahead and ship it 12/13, but with the holidays and pkgs and all, it might get there late 12/15 and when CW could install it was on them. Really? Where's the love?

The 5 other issues fixed 1) cable tv inlet in outer bin (so you can plug in to an RV park cable and watch tv.) Which had never been done because it didn't work. There is a button in an upper cabinet behind DVD and receiver that is to be pushed if you watch tv with the antenna. So if you use cable, the button should be off. Said cabinet is also 8ft above our heads in a cabinet that doesn't stay open. Lots of fun doing that with no ladder. And no instruction from anyone til 12/12 (we pushed cable thru the bedroom slide out and directly into the tv)

2) missing bolt that kept the gate around the patio upright

3) fault indicator in bin above driver seat (was told by CW it controlled the upper bunk. Interesting since the upper bunk had been used and worked fine!)

4) plastic cap over outer light that blew off while driving in OK wind!

5) HDMI cord in bin above kitchen sink not attached to anything. CW told us it was for use if we had a satellite. We do not.

Is being level in a motorhome a "suggestion"?? We've never been even close to level.

To date, we have spent $292.50 on a hotel room. And, we will have to pay $76.31/nite until CW gets the heater fixed. (that's on them, ya know)

And at least $1000 in vet bills. Did I mention that our dog for whom we bought the patio for died this weekend?

Merry Christmas.
