Internet search for durham performing arts center was performed. I clicked on one of the first frw links. Title of website was Durham Theatre. I assumed this was DPAC website, however I was wrong. There is indeed small notifications in hard to read areas of this on the imposter website. I purchased 2 tickets from a third party vendor because I was tricked. I ended up paying double for my tickets and now I am also not sure if they will work the day of the show as they are third party.
Their scam is to misrepresent local theater productions as Broadway productions and sell the tickets 5-10 times their face value. If you try to cancel the tickets after purchasing, they will give you the runaround and basically won't let you do it. You can't even get anyone on the phone. I am disputing the charge through my credit card company.
If someone you know is a victim of this scam, file a claim here and list all of their websites here so they show up in search engines.
List of Theaterland Ltd run websites (so they show up in search engines):
My senior mother fell and broke her hip. She had purched tickets to a play through this website. I tried to call them to get a refund. It is very clear that they have NO interest in responding to customers at all.
When you call, if you press a button for customer service, you are routed to an IVR with automated responses. The only way I was able to get someone on the phone is by asking to BUY tickets and then tell the agent my problem, and then transferred to a customer service rep.
The agent I spoke with refused to give me any consideration on compassionate grounds to get a refund, and suggested I sell my tickets on another third party site, or get a credit for one-third of the cost. If they're a reseller, I don't understand why they can't relist the tickets themselves. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that managers only respond to internal inquiries and not to customers directly. Absolutely deplorable behaviour.
Ironically we were planning to go see "A Christmas Carol." This company clearly doesn't understand the meaning of compassion and are acting like total scrooges!
I would never buy from this company again and would caution anybody against them. Their responses are cold, unfeeling, and harsh. Don't let them tell you that "it's just their policy." That's a policy of not serving customer needs and being greedy.
This was my fault. I'm usually more careful than this but was excited to the get the tickets purchased and realized too late, I had been ripped off. And of course, no return policy. I haven't yet found out if the tickets are real but will check with the box office prior to going. I ended up paying 5x what I could have had the same tickets for.
Always go to the theatre website to find out where to buy tickets. Torotonto-theatre.com is ticket reseller and scalper, charging outrageous prices and fees. It's a ripoff scam
I recently purchased two tickets to an upcoming show (The Book of Mormon) here in Birmingham AL. I'm relatively new to the area and when searching for tickets the "Birmingham Theatre" was selling tickets and I thought this was the venue. Little did I know that I was going to be taken by scammers!!
This company sells tickets as a third party. i.e. scalper I paid $313 for two $37 tickets!!! When I was buying the tickets I bought the $130 tickets thinking I would be getting good seats. The seats ended up being in the upper deck row PP!
When I contacted the company via chat (the only way to communicate) they said that was too bad. They sold tickets at the going rate. Are you kidding me? It's not like I was buying tickets to Hamilton. The customer service rep said that a box was shown on the page with the tickets saying they were a third party vendor. Well when you scroll looking at the tickets that little box conveniently disapears.
Please be aware!!! This is a complete rip off. It turns out that this company is located in London England and they buy up domains for city theatres. These are the days I wish I had gone to law school.
