Since December 26, 2016 I have been renting an apartment at The Marc from 900 8th Avenue Condominium LLC which is managed by Columbus Property Management. They're trying to kick me out because cancer left me physically disabled and I require the assistance of a Service Animal.
I HAVE NEVER MISSED--OR BEEN LATE--ON A SINGLE RENT PAYMENT
I am fully paid, have auto-payments setup, and have never been late on a rental payment.
BUT I HAVE A DISABILITY FROM CANCER THAT REQUIRES THE ASSISTANCE OF A SERVICE ANIMAL
I have a disability and, for that disability, I require a Service Animal.
I HAVE A REAL SERVICE ANIMAL, NOT A PET.
My Service Animal is registered with both the City and State of New York. He has a Service Animal tag issued by the City of New York.
This is a real Service Animal for a very legitimate disability.
They made it clear that they don't like that I have a Service Animal, regardless of whether or not it's legal for me to have one, and are trying to kick me out.
This is a dog-friendly building, by the way.
There are no complaints about my Service Animal. He has not bothered anyone, he is not aggressive, they simply don't want him in the building and are discriminating against me for having a disability and requiring reasonable accommodations.
CREEPY: THEY TAKE PHOTOS OF YOU WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE
The property management company has taken photos of me with my Service Dog and shared them with people (including myself) which is very creepy and a huge violation of my trust.
THEY REFUSE TO ACCEPT RENT TO TRY AND MAKE IT LOOK LIKE YOU ARE NOT PAYING RENT
Today, they refused to accept my rent payment for the month of June. They shut down my access to make automatic payments online to give me the false appearance of not paying rent.
THEY THREATEN TENANT'S WITH "LEGAL ACTION" SOLELY BASED ON THEIR DISABILITY
They have told me they are taking "legal action" against me so I can only assume they will be trying to evict me for having a Service Animal.
IF THEY TREAT A TENANT THIS WAY WHO HAS NEVER MISSED A RENTAL PAYMENT AND WHO IS A PROTECTED CLASS UNDER BOTH THE FAIR HOUSING ACT AMENDMENT OF 1988 AND THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT, HOW DO YOU THINK THEY'LL TREAT YOU?
Think about that for a moment before you even think about renting from The Marc at 260 W 54th Street in New York, NY.
