I hired an attorney to represent me in my civil court case and he did nothing to help me and even made it worse. Then, he kept the upfront retainer.
I hired Stephen K. Hachey, P.A. to represent me in my civil court trail. Mr. Hachey demanded that I pay an upfront retainer of $1,500 prior to him representing me.
Even though I thought that was a steep amount to ask for upfront, I obliged, as there was some time sensitivity to my case. Once he was paid, he did very little and basically told me I had to do exactly what the plaintiffs attorney asked me to do. I was surprised that he was not representing or fighting for my interests as the defendant.
I sent Mr. Hachey the fact information sheet, which the court was needing from me. I asked him to submit it to the courts right away, as the plaintiff's attorney was trying to attach a writ of bodily attachment for this old collection debt. He said he would not submit the information sheet to the courts until I submitted to him three months of bank statements.
I told him that three months of bank statements did not exist, since my only personal account was opened in October 2019. He then insinuated and outright accused me of perjury on the fact information sheet and refused to make a motion to dismiss the writ or the whole case itself. I then terminated him as my attorney in this matter.
I then asked for complete refund of the $1,500, to which he said the retainer was non-refundable and would not be giving any of it back. I let him know that we would give him a week to do the right thing and refund the money before we would pursue letting the proper authorities know that he was acting in an unethical and improper manner.
Not only did he not help me resolve my case, as his client, but it seemed like he was colluding with the plaintiff's attorney, as well, to prevent me from wrapping up the whole court case entirely. I'm still dealing with the mess he left me in. Buyer's beware.
