I have been an excellent client of J Peterman Company since the 1980s. The quality and customer service used to be fantastic.
Recently I selected 10 items that I wanted to purchase. All were final sale and not returnable. I called the company in advance of this purchase and asked if I could return items that simply did not fit for store credit. The customer service representative checked with her supervisor and confirmed that I could. I asked how that would be noted and she assured me that she had point a note on my account. I returned 2 or 10 items.
I never got a receipt for the items so I sent an email inquiry. J Peterman responded that they would email back within a business day. They never responded.
I called to explain the situation and was disconnected.
Finally, I got through and the supervisor said no way were they accepting the return items and basically the phone conversation that I had in advance of my order could never have happened.
I've never in my life done anything sketchy with returns and am appalled at being treated this way.
What kind of business model is it to not take back items for store credit? Or to treat loyal customers like an annoying problem. They have lost my thousands of dollars of business forever.
BTW - one of the blouses I ordered in the same order fell apart the first time I wore it. It is too insulting to deal with the company to try and get a refund.
