I was recruited as an independent contractor to work for The Bread and Board as backstage catering at Hemming Park for Jazz Fest. We had agreed to a rate of $14/hr working three 14 hour days. I have text messages, Google maps showing me at the location for those hours, and numerous witnesses I worked with who will confirm this as well as a signed I9 form that should be on file with the company. We had agreed in writing that payment was going to be two weeks (14 days) from the time of the event in the form of a paycheck for services rendered. Leading up to that 14 day mark I stopped by the store asking for a status update on my paycheck. Everyone began giving me the run-around stating all check inquiries are to be directed through Laura. She was very punctual in her text responses while I was working for her, but now that I'm asking about payment she has gone completely silent ignoring me and refusing to respond for a week now. I have gone to the store location since, and all anyone says is to contact Laura. Now nobody is responding. I have no choice but to consider this as intent to refuse payment, and will be filing a complaint with the Florida Department of Labor as well as any additional action required. I am not having 42 hours in three days stolen from me by an unscrupulous business like this one that thinks it can just ignore people away, and doesn't have to pay them for work performed.
